Charles Krauthammer's column blaming all the world's problems on former president Bill Clinton [op-ed, Feb. 14] echoes attacks by ultraconservative writers and regurgitates their anti-Clinton bile to distort history. Krauthammer's allegations are wrong and misleading. At a time when our nation is preparing for war, we should be serious about serious things, rather than gathering debating points to please one extreme of the political spectrum. Consider:

Iraq. In 1991 we had 500,000 troops in and around Iraq. President George H.W. Bush decided on a strategy of containment, not overthrow. No need to go ONE WORD FURTHER......it's a damn lie.

It was Clinton -- taking a firm stand, as opposed to the current confused posture of the United States -- who froze North Korea's plutonium production operation. Were it not for Clinton's leadership, North Korea would have enough plutonium to make at least 50 nuclear bombs today. Freakin' unbelievable!

One big lobbying firm in Washington during the Clinton years was known as Podesta.com. The firm's name partner, Anthony Podesta, is the brother of Clinton White House chief of staff John Podesta. Another principal at the firm, according to the Associated Press, was Jeff Ricchetti, brother of the deputy White House chief of staff, Steve Ricchetti.

Iraq. In 1991 we had 500,000 troops in and around Iraq. President George H.W. Bush decided on a strategy of containment, not overthrow. During the Clinton years, military force was deployed against Iraq on four occasions, including an intensive four-day air campaign in 1998 that significantly set back Iraq's program of weapons of mass destruction. As a result of the Clinton administration's efforts -- the combination of sanctions, strong enforcement of the no-fly zone and military action -- the Iraq our troops face today is far weaker than it was a decade ago.

died at the hands of foreign terrorists during the Reagan administration, including 241 Marines at barracks in Lebanon Reagan was fighting the Cold War at the time. What was Clinton fighting during the 90's that kept him so ineffective....oh, yes, the Monica Battle.

...an intensive four-day air campaign in 1998 that significantly set back Iraq's program of weapons of mass destruction.THIS is their latest and most revolting spin.
How many times have I heard some Clintonista or other spout the party line: "The inspections during the 90's destroyed 95% of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction!". That's like saying I took care of 95% of my cancer.
Thank God these people aren't in charge any more.

I replied to the Krauthammer post...oops! I meant to post it here.
At the end of the Krauthammer article are these words from Carl Sagan:
The existence of intelligent life depends not just on creation but on continuity.
The Clinton administration, through it's insatiable desire to cover up everything in sight, has paved the way for Iraq and North Korea to serve up death and destruction the likes of which we have never witnessed. The U.N. is only working to ensure that it takes place. All because of the vanity of Bill and Hillary Clinton. And....their quest goes on.
