Go see this movie! Life of David Gale

"The Life of David Gale" is the best movie I have seen in the last two years. It is about the death penalty and its opponents, and is VERY politically incorrect. I can't say more without giving away the plot. It got zero (0) stars from Ebert because he didn't agree with its politics! I was glued to my seat for two hours. Fellow Freepers will love this movie, and the time just rushes by.

I don't care what kind of movie he makes - I refuse to pay a penny to see Kevin Spacey. I'll pass.

wasn't he fantastic in K-Pax?

You know I liked that movie better...when it was called "Star Man."

David Gale is an understandably bitter man, played by Kevin Spacey, who protests his innocence to a reporter named Bitsey Bloom (Kate Winslet), whom he has summoned to Texas for that purpose. He claims to have been framed by right-wing supporters of capital punishment because his death would provide such poetic irony in support of the noose, the gas or the chair.

None of which are used in Texas, of course. Lethal injection.

I guess that makes two movies this weekend that Ebert has marked down due to their political stances. Gods and Generals is the other. He says nothing about the acting or script and only briefly adresses the handling of the battle scenes. He rambles on about political things though. Then he inisinuates that Civil War buffs don't bother to see movies. Sort of a holier than thou statement.

I always loved Kevin Spacey's acting. However, he is on my boycott list. Are you joking with this thread? I thought the review this morning said the film was morally bankrupt and an insult to the audience?

Well, my initial discernment was that it is another Liberal movie [starring nothing but Liberals] who rail against and make neverending accusations against legitimate authority.

You are right...at least according to the review I read in the NY Times this morning.

They hated it because it was too liberal and heavy-handed!

They bought Spacey in the role....and nothing else.

Not joking; I loved it and thought it was VERY moral. Those of you who don't want to see it -- fine, I respect your views (I won't see a Jane Fonda film) but it is great...

Are we allowed to post complete articles from the Chicago Sun-Times? Aren't they a Tribune company?

If so, they should shut it down. Why should the Chicago Tribune compete with itself?

IMHO, Spacey peaked with "L.A. Confidential." That was a cool as S movie.

Agreed, The Usual Suspects is a classic movie....regardless of the idiotic stance of the actor Kevin Spacey(last name says it all) I also thoroughly enjoyed "The Shipping News".

Really? I thought the movie would be just the opposite, PC! Thanks for telling me different. I am boycotting all of Hollywood, but might make an exception for this one!

Do NOT see this movie! I just walked out of it and raced to Free Republic to spread the word. Perhaps Ebert didn't like the ending, but only because it was so transparent that I figured it out in the first half hour. Here's a few dandies from the flick: "Did you know that 73 percent of serial killers vote Republican" and "He's a right-wing f*ck" ... this movie is obviously ANTI death penalty and anti conservative. It just goes to show how stupid the Hollywood libs are that even they screwed up their agenda by out-thinking themselves (you'd have to watch the end to know what I mean. They really did botch it conceptually!)

Hmm, after seeing the preview I thought this would be a bleeding heart propaganda flick... Now after reading this, I'm not quite sure what to think...

The Gollywooders are always in it for the shock value.
If they REALLY wanted to shock us they would all denounce Marxism, shave their heads, and become devout Conservatives!

But, alas, they are all naught but thespians.........

Wow...I'm shocked...Kevin Spacey????? That must be why he was kind of apologizing today. He was saying he hoped the politics would take backseat to the entertainment value of the movie. I knew that sounded fishy!

My business neighbor is a CIVIL WAR FANATIC. His other CIVIL WAR FANATICS are all getting together this weekend from ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY together here in San Diego to see this movie. Ebert is a big fat idiot.
