That vigilance will pay off, look at Staten Island today, complete response in FOUR minutes! FBI, every agency but EPA in four minutes, that has to feel good there knowing that.

My husband works with boardups etc and in Chicago and the suburbs it has been very dry this season. Lucky for many folx though, fire prevention better? Mild winter? But averaging very low fires this season.

Think about that for a minute...your boss is in a cave, watching the news, and you just called him on his satellite phone to tell him that the Great Satan would be running scared from New York at any minute....boss tunes in.....FNC reports "This was just an accident, folks. Nothing more to report", as streaming video shows everyone walking down 5th Avenue going to lunch and FNC talks about Laci Peterson.
Is that picture a hoot or what!

There were 126,000 non-residential fires in 2000. I fully comprehend the concept of large number of non-residential fires -- my father was a firefighter. However (ugh, I'm getting tired of typing this), the potential for three refinery fires in one day, considering our relationship to Iraq, Al Quaida (whatever), et al., does seem a bit odd. It was just becoming a bit difficult to consider that they all might be coincidences (or however the spelling Nazis tell me I should spell it).

Lighten up, granny.

I'm with you. Just trying to add some perspective. Somtines things seem odd, but it turns out to be nothing. Sometimes things seem normal, but it turnsout that something bad is happening. Sometimes...well, enough of that!

It would seem to me that if Al Qeada were clever, it would claim credit for all of the above. The result would be national hysteria.

Thanks. Good for you.

National hysteria? Come now.
If you haven't exercised your 2nd Amendment rights yet, then perhaps you should so you can calm down.

That is why it is called terror

This SD fire is in a recycling plant, not a refinery. Change your mind?
To: Robert_Paulson2
Ok, but to what end? None of these fires resulted in the kind of loss of life a terrorist would be aiming for. None of them resulted in any real economic impact. None of them have epochal consequences. And they haven't taken responsbility for them. Terrorists are in the terror business. None of what's happened today scares me.
To: coloradan
Except apparently Great White does not usually/always use pyrotechnics. And if it was somehow the work of terrorists, how effective can their terror be if everyone thinks it was just a horrible tragedy due to terrible judgement?
