What is your favorite Movie? (Vanity)

Posted on 02/20/2003 4:00:09 PM PST by ezo4

I’m sitting here after work and pulled out the “Last of the Mohicans” and I’m wondering what my fellow freepers like for there favorite movies. I would like more for my collection of dvd’s. Current and older movies? Doesn’t matter what it is.

Just a little break from the daily news and politics.

I have quite a few that I like and I’m looking for more. Hit me back

That was a good series.

There are so many good movies, but I'll end the night with one of our favorite Christmas movies. We watch it every year..."A Christmas Story". ("Ralphie, you'll shoot your eye out!")

I forgot these:
Red Dawn
- More achievement against great odds. It also shows the American spirit.  Wolverines!
Rudy
- More achievement against great odds and it's a true story.
Top Gun
- Finally, a decent modern military movie!
Starship Troopers
- Did you notice that the government was based on the Roman Empire?
Casablanca
- The classic Bogey film.

Star Wars and Star Trek movies, except for the Star Treks with the bald guy.  Live long and prosper.

You can also include any of the musicals with Audrey Hepburn, Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Fred Astair, Ginger Rogers, Donald O'Connor, Vera-ellen, etc.

Also, most of the old war movies are great.  The new war movies mostly suck.  The same applies for Westerns and swashbucklers.

In general, the older movies were just far better in black and white, than all the new politically correct movies, with all their special effects.  They have come to rely too much on special effects and the actors are all too often one dimensional.  Then, to top it off, many modern movies and actors use the medium to try to send a liberal message.  The older stuff was mostly pure entertainment, by actors who could make you believe in the character.

"pettifogger"

Hmmm. Haven't heard that word since I called my ex-husband's divorce lawyer one.

(smile)

Do you guys like or dislike Nicholas Cage?

Depends on the movie. Some of his stuff, I have no desire to see, but I liked the movies Con Air and The Rock.

The Thomas Crowne Affair defined 40-ish babeness and male sophistication, all in one fell swoop.

Ahhh, yes. So much better as Thomas Crowne than 007.

Love N. Cage in that movie where he is a rich ***hole and wakes up married to his old sweetheart. Can't think of the name, but it's a great movie.

The Family Man is the movie you're thinking of.

The Primrose Path (Joel McCrea, Ginger Rogers)
These Three (Joel McCrea, Merle Oberon, Miriam Hopkins)
Jane Eyre (Orson Welles, Joan Fontaine)
Edward Scissorhands
Kitty Foyle (Ginger Rogers)
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Sense and Sensibility
Tiger Bay (Hayley Mills)
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Brave Little Toaster
Hoppity Goes to Town
A Song to Remember
Return to Me

In no particular order...

"First a comedy--Cary Grant's classic, "Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House." I'll bet not many of you have seen it, but you can't take your eyes off it once it starts."

Absolutely one of the funniest movies ever. It had even more relevance when I was building a new home.

Forgot about that one! Love it! Well, I love anything Cary Grant was in. "Arsenic and Old Lace" was his best comedic role, IMO.

Is that the one with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant, where they adopt the little girl who dies?

Good one - forgot about that - loved the part where Uncle Joe from Petticoat Junction gives the baby a bath.

I used to spend hours watching AMC back before they had commercials every 3 minutes.
