What is your favorite Movie? (Vanity)

I’m sitting here after work and pulled out the “Last of the Mohicans” and I’m wondering what my fellow freepers like for there favorite movies. I would like more for my collection of dvd’s. Current and older movies? Doesn’t matter what it is.

Just a little break from the daily news and politics.

I have quite a few that I like and I’m looking for more. Hit me back

Has anyone seen The Eye of Vichy? I just ordered it; a local conservative talk show host said he watched it three times over the weekend, he was so stunned by the footage in it.

In addition to "Reservoir Dogs"

I have that on DVD but I can't bear the scene with the cop being tortured. That's just too over the edge for me so I "FF" past it. Otherwise, good film with some great scenes. My favorite scene is where everybody sits around at the breakfast place (at the very beginning) and get into this big argument over tipping. I like all the Taratino films. As well as those by the Coen brothers, especially "Fargo" and "Big Lebowski."

I don't watch a lot of films. I hate the "formula" films, you know, the ones with the obligatory car chases, overblown action scenes, and moronic dialogue. But the ones I like, I can watch over and over. They include:

I rented "Pi" and I sorta liked it; didn't think it was great though. Definately not a chick flick.

Once my two brain-dead roommates saw it was filmed in black & white, they both tore out of the house.

If it wasn't in color and it didn't "star" Adam Sandler my roommates were bored.

Nope - when I'm not wallowing in foreign or Indie films these days, I'm all for watching "Girls Gone Wild" or some other mindless diversion, however, "She Who Controls the Clicker on the Big TV" objects to both serious fare and smut.

"Girls Gone Wild" - is that part of a series of films? I saw some guys talking about "Armadillos Gone Wild" the other day, on another thread.

I hear you on the formula films.

Stupidist film I ever got drug to was that ridiculously overdramatic cliche-filled "Face Off". Hard for me to take Sean Hannity seriously when he opens his show with that music.

OTOH, "Backdraft" was sorta a formula film that still managed to 'work'.

I bought "A Big Fat Greek Wedding" Valentine's Day weekend to watch with my wife. I knew it was a "chick flick" but the movie got a lot of rave reviews and was built up as one of the best films of 2002. I must say I was underwhelmed as the movie was rather flat and predictable. My wife thought it was great however. Must be a girl thing.

Re: "Big Night"... very good choice.

I saw it when it first came out - the food prep. scenes in this flick are very similar to our Christmas Eve diner prep. at my house.

Yes, it is apparently a series of documentaries on young women and alcohol abuse. Its really educational, from what I hear.

It's completely unique and it challenges the viewer as well as the actors at the table.

I liked "Scarface" and also "Dog Day Afternoon" with Pacino. Also, I didn't mention "Apocalypse Now" and "The Right Stuff" in my earlier post. Two more of my all-time favorite films. I didn't mention "Lord Of The Rings" only because the movies are still brand new. But I'm sure they'll stand the test of time and I'll be watching them with my grandkids many years from now.

I really dont know what to think of those two movies. Me personaly after reading the books over two decades. Many times over. I dont know. I think they are at least as good as the books. They will be around a very long time. Good stuff!
