(2/20/03) — Sex in a public park has neighbors outraged and now city officials in Lake Jackson have voted to close park during the week. Recent acts of public sexual activity in Wilderness Park have forced the city to close it down.

Neighbors say public lewdness has been a problem at the park for more than year. City officials have received numerous complaints about lewdness, and last October arrested two men for having sex there.

The city council voted this week to close the park Monday through Friday to stop the indecency.

"The hope is that if someone wants to have sexual activity, they go to a hotel room; they go home," said Lake Jackson Mayor Shane Pirtle.

The park will still be open during the day on weekends. Park officials and police will keep patrolling the park to make sure people aren't having sex there.

I can remember back in the early 90's when I lived in Tavares, Fl we had a boat landing/park that was between Tavares & Leesburg called Buzzard Beach. They had a real problem with the Homo's having sex in the evenings and also people being propositioned by these people. Unfortunately It's a problem that won't soon go away.

We had the same problem in the beautiful parks in Eugene, Oregon when we lived there. Mostly homosexual activity. It was kind of scary to take a kid for a day in the park.

I dunno about you, but I'd have just as big a problem with a man and wife having sex in this public park.

Must admit, though, somehow I just knew the "people" having sex in this park would turn out to be men with men.

The way to stop this is to increase the penalty. Felony with minimum 3 months in jail and no possibility of expunging from their record should prove quite effective(and remove a few idiots from the voting roll).

Almost all the parks in Seattle, including a portion of the Woodland Park Zoo, have this kind of problem, some worse than others.

They will not arrest illegals in that area, clamp down on degenerate behavior, never.

"Music Man" is my favorite musical. I could not believe how many ways they found to ruin it. All the people involved seemed unhappy, sad, or maybe embarrassed to be in such a bad production. For a high school effort it was good.

I was thinking more of a can of pepper spray. Not the little devices that women put in their purses. One of the nice big cans you can buy at Galyans, REI, etc., that are used to discourage bears. Do you think that getting hit with one of those hurts a lot more when you're naked than when you've got clothes on?

You could probably get away with it, too. Hard to chase someone when you've been sprayed *and* you've got your pants down ....
