TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's defense minister said on Wednesday its forces would "confront" any U.S. aircraft that used its airspace during possible strikes on neighboring Iraq. Iran, branded a sponsor of terrorism by Washington, opposes any military operation against Iraq and has repeatedly urged Baghdad to cooperate with U.N. arms inspectors "to remove any pretext" Washington might use to launch a war.

"We will defend our airspace and will not let America violate our airspace while attacking Iraq," Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani told reporters.

A pro-American regime is far from established in Afghanistan. The regime we support exercises little power outside of Kabul, and the warlords are loyal only to their pocketbooks. There are plenty of them that are perfectly willing to let Taliban train in their mountains. We need to do a lot more to help that country before we can declare victory there.

I read Clinton's statement contained in your link.

It's the usual Clinton BS designed to cover his rear end. But it doesn't deal with the long range strategic plan that I think President Bush is pursuing which is defeating the terrorists through attrition and democratization.

Clinton should have engaged the terrorists strategically.

Of course, he didn't. Wouldn't have been cool.

The Iranian AF is a toothless tiger. The best birds they have are some old worn-out Tomcats that have not seen a proper maintenance technician since before the revolution.

If they want to take one of those tired old birds up against a USN pilot, I am sure we will send the pilot directly to paradise.

Achmed, Mohammed and Akbar, three experienced shepherds hire a new hand Ali for a drive through the desert. Ali, being a newlywed, after a few weeks asks the other three "What do you do for woman in desert ?"
"Take sheep" says Achmed, "Ahh, sheep" squeels Mohammed, "lamb" says Akbar while puckering his lips.

"You guys nuts, I no believe" shouts Ali as he storms off.

A few weeks later he asks again and receives the same reply. He says "Really ?, I do not believe." to which the shepherds say "we have all done it."

The next night shortly after dinner Ali sneaks off to the the far edge of the herd, and thinking himself to be alone, forces his affection upon a sheep. Before finishing, he sees the three shepherds on a nearby ridge pointing at him and laughing hysterically.

He leaves his four legged friend and charges the still laughing arabs while shouting "by the sword of allah I will have your heads for tricking me !"

When he reaches with fists clenched the shepherds who are now crying and rolling on the ground from laughing so hard, Mohammed says "No, we all really have done it, you just picked the UGLIEST SHEEP in the whole flock !"
