Iran Says Would Confront U.S. Jets in Its Airspace

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's defense minister said on Wednesday its forces would "confront" any U.S. aircraft that used its airspace during possible strikes on neighboring Iraq. Iran, branded a sponsor of terrorism by Washington, opposes any military operation against Iraq and has repeatedly urged Baghdad to cooperate with U.N. arms inspectors "to remove any pretext" Washington might use to launch a war.
"We will defend our airspace and will not let America violate our airspace while attacking Iraq," Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani told reporters.

Iranians are not Arabs they are akin to Persians and speak and Indo-European langauge not a Semitic one like Arabic. Iranians are Shi'ite Muslims and for the most part Arabs are Sunnis.

With what? Shaking your empty fist at a F-15 is hardly an effective form of confrontation. One is reminded of an old cartoon of a mouse flipping the bird to a diving eagle. It was captioned "The last great act of defiance".

I am sure the prospect of a confrontation with Iran's air force has our USAF and USN guys shaking in their boots.
Last I heard the F4's and F14's Iran acquired during the Shah's rule were rusting and corroding away due to lack of maintenace, spare parts, etc. They may have gotten some Russian stuff since but I would presume it is also held together with bailing wire and duct tape and that the pilots are substandard with any US trained pilots having been executed, retired, kicked out, etc. Russian trained pilots rely heavily on ground control and decision making and are essentially order followers rather than independent thinkers. If Iranian control facilities are a smoking hole as is likely, they are in trouble.

Iran should be first, not Iraq. Iran is the real enemy. Unfortunately we have a bunch of neo-cons who are in bed with the Likud in our government. Americans shouldn't have to fight and die for Israel. That's a good point, except that it makes absolutely no sense. If we were in bed with the Likud, we'd be attacking Iran, since their Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (remember them?) is the organization that backs Palestinian terror groups. Iran is the biggest enemy that Israel faces. Saddam is a Johnny come lately to the game of Palestinian terror, and, since Osirik, less of a threat than Iran.
You're holding your liberal 'truth' leaflet upside down or something. It should read 'When America attacks Iraq, it's because we're in bed with the oil companies'.
