The Bush administration has rejected the prospect of mass deportations of Muslim illegal aliens. The administration plans to relay this message to American Muslim leaders amid the current nationwide alert for an Al Qaida attack. Hundreds of Muslims have been detained as illegal aliens as part of a crackdown by federal law enforcement authorities, Middle East Newsline reported.
On Tuesday, FBI Director Robert Mueller will meet American Muslim leaders to discuss federal measures against Al Qaida threats. Muslim groups have filed a class action suit against the government, charging that the Immigration and Naturalization Service has arrested Muslims illegally.
Muslim groups said the millions of Muslims in the United States have been the target of a backlash since the Al Qaida suicide attacks on New York and Washington in September 2001. They said at least 15 Muslims and a Sikh have been killed in attacks around the country.
Officials said Mueller plans to discuss the attacks on Muslims as well as policy toward illegal aliens. They said this will include a law passed over the last year that requires citizens from many Arab and Islamic nations to register with the INS. The procedure also includes photographing and fingerprinting.
Muslim groups have expressed concern that the law will result in the detention and deportation of hundreds of thousands of Arab and Islamic immigrants who arrived illegally or whose visas have expired. The Alliance of Iranian Americans, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Council on American Islamic Relations, and the National Council of Pakistani Americans have asked a federal court to issue an injunction to prevent the prospect of mass arrests.
But officials said the administration plans to reassure Muslim groups that special procedures enacted over the last year will be limited to those immigrants regarded as security threats.

Tom Ridge can stand up all day on TV and pontificate how we should have three days supply of everything in case of a terrorist attack - but don't unroll the duct tape just yet.
But, until this Administration gets serious about the myriad illegal aliens in this country - all of whom are lawbreakers and some of whom plan our infinite harm - this Homeland Security "program" is simply symphony music on the Titanic and not worth heeding.
When they get serious, we'll get serious!

I know of one middle eastern family who was deported from this area.
The man said he was told by authorities if illegals reported their status to the authorities, they would be given their legal papers to stay. The family had been in this country for 7 years and the man had a job.
So he went to the authorities and they deported the family.

I'm still waiting for someone in the federal government to tell me what laws I can break and get away with.

The thing that shocks me is that the illegal aliens in the article are actually called "illegal aliens". Didn't they get the memo? It's "undocumented" now!

It's wrong because it only includes Muslims. As much as we don't want to we'll have to deport all illegal aliens. Isn't fairness a shame!

"If he is the Chief Law Enforcment Officer in the land and refuses to enforce the laws he took an oath to then I have no use for this little pissant."No kidding! Who do these people think they are that they can pick and choose which laws they're going to enforce. If they are here illegally, a law has been broken and there's a prescribed legal remedy.
But no! They have to make it political. Very dangerous and IMO not conservative.

"Mass deportation of Muslim illegal aliens ruled out"
This is a great part of the reason why many conservatives who have always supported government have turned against this war thing. They may not march but they are not in favor of endless war which these actions portend.
They begin to fear that Mr. Bush is not genuinely interested in ridding us of anything but our freedoms. Shedding the blood of their teens is hardly worth it in light of the kind of dedication to a war on terrorism reflected by the headline quoted above.
How can one be assured that the terrorism fixation isn't counterfeit when the blood is being shed to protect the ILLegal aliens cited above after a hefty portion of our liberties has been forfeit and we are under threat from a goodly portion of the enemy resident within our gates.

So let me get this straight: We can have the National Guard armed and standing watch in the NYC subway system, but we can't deport ILLEGAL aliens from terrorist-sponsoring nations? This is an outrage!

I might be looking for another candidate More and more Americans are thinking the same thing, that "homeland security" does not exist with the open borders that Bush seems to like so much.

This is the only real point I don't agree with the Bush administration on. What part of "Illegal" don't they understand? That's like saying, "I love this elephant, even though it's standing on my foot"..

Ah yes... whine about lost freedom and in the mean time kick people out on the basis of their religion.
