Ken Schram Commentary: What Did They Expect To Accomplish?

SEATTLE - Maybe it was the courage of their convictions?

Or it could it have been the strength of their beliefs?

Personally, I think it was that the morning temperature exceeded their collective I.Q.

The kindest thing that can be said about the demonstrators who thought they'd score anti-war points with their traffic antics on 520 Tuesday morning is that they were misguided.

What did they really expect to accomplish?

Let's see, how about giving people more time to think about the futility of war by making them late for work?

Wait. Reverse psychology. Maybe they wanted to get folks P.O.'d to the point of blaming President Bush for FORCING the protestors to risk alienating the very people they want support from?

Or how about this possibility: The yahoos that pulled off this stunt are actually in cahoots with those who SUPPORT war with Iraq.

Yeah, that's it. Embarrass the anti-war effort by creating the impression that really, really stupid people are the only ones who could possibly be opposed to military action against Saddam Hussein.

Just round up a few shills with a good young-to-middle-aged demographic, set them loose on the freeway under the guise of peace, and watch the frolic and mayhem unfold.

That's gotta be it: A diabolical plot to foster support for war by pretending to be protesting for peace.

Either that, or these folks are dumber than rocks.

Marching is just the beginning. Civil disobedience, campus riots, etc are next.

They should have run over the sob's.

Every damn protestor needs to be hung from a light pole.

He is making sense...well, sort of (maybe the beard helps him). They are dumb as rocks...but not just because they are causing traffic problems!

It must be something about Seattle...everytime these folks decide to protest something, they march on down (from UW or Capitol Hill, or Broadway) and block the Interstate. The Gulf War, Rodney King, the WTO...I'm missing something...is blocking the highway supposed to make me sympathetic to their cause? Or curse the idiots who set up the "ate up" road network in/around Seattle?

They even do it if some criminal scumbag tries to kill a cop and gets shot... there's gotta be something in the water down there...

"Saddam only kills his own people, it's none of our business" sounds like a lot of the Libertarians here (not all, but many) ;0)

Well, if you remember that the organizers of the anti-war protests are the same people who trashed Seattle during the World Trade meeting you won't be so surprised.

A.N.S.W.E.R has changed their web site and deleted all reference to the anti-globalization protests, but they are one and the same, anarchists. They also deleted reference to support of Milosovic, Castro and Kim Jong Il.

"I am thinkin' he was probably just 87,462 cars back in the backup that followed this little stunt and it ticked him off, and he now thinks the antiwar movement looks silly. Purdy funny if you ask me."

You're probably right. I've heard Schram becomes "Schrambo" when he gets behind a steering wheel. He's an ex-New Yorker,(we all know about their driving finesse), I wish he'd go back and take a half a dozen or more of his buddies with him.

Unbelieveable. I never thought I'd hear our own local Donahue wannabe say anything I agree with.

As I told my wife as we were watching these parasites perform their little hippie theater in the round on the news last night:

Please let them do this in front of my Explorer next time!

"Is there water under that portion of the bridge?"

Yes. The area there is called the Mountlake Cut. It is a man made canal connecting Lake Washington with Lake Union and the Puget Sound.

The cops tossed the protesters tripod play toy over the side into the water.

"They tossed it really?"

You bet. It wasn't the Seattle cops that responded first, it was our jackbooted State Patrol. I'm surprized a couple of protesters didn't get a billyclub shampoo.
