What France Can Do With Its Wine
FrontPage magazine ^ | February 17, 2003 | Tammy Bruce

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has suggested, among other things, that we put warning labels on French wine alerting the consumer that the French use bovine blood to clarify the wine. I think that’s a great idea. Other than being generally disgusting to vegetarians who thought French wine was drinkable, it highlights the risk of mad cow disease, via that bovine blood tainting French wine.

But many cows have become mad after being "gotten" after drinking French wine. ;)

There are some excellent wineries in New York, Finger Lakes Region. Try Bully Hill Walter S. Taylor, Founder of the Bully Hill Winery is of the Famous "Taylor" family of California (New York Branch)

I particularly LOVE Australian Wines - anything from the Barossa Velley is fabulous - Jacob's Creek is excellent.

I never enjoyed French wines. I always thought they wer overrated.

"...ever gotten Mad Cow..."

Well, there were these two Britney-like American sociology majors at UBC in the sixties...

...they got pretty rude after three bottles of Chateau D'Or...;^)

We hit the Widmer winery in Naples, NY every year during the Grape Festival. I usually grab a gallon of the Taylor Lake Country Red and a few different (more expensive)whites.

As much as I despise the French (as opposed to France) I will as always have to go on record and opine that:

There is simply no substitute for a great Bordeaux or Burgundy to be found anywhere else in the world.

I am speaking of reds (is there another color wine?). The finest of Kali, Oregon, Washington, Italy, Spain, Australia, NZ, Chile, South Africa simply lack the complexity that these two premier French wine producing areas have attained after over 1000 years of wine making.

Confessing this does not make me happy btw.

BUT, as a true patriot, you're gonna give up drinking that swill. Right? LOL,just kidding.>

When I first saw the title I thought of a homonym:

Seriously, I actually drink little anymore. I love the taste but the effect makes me sleepy. My wife OTOH loves wine. Her everyday wine is usually Ca' del Sol or Jest Red....two of the best for the money Reds one can buy and both Kali Sonoma wines under 10 bucks a bottle.

I'm basing my opinion from many years of drinking good to great Reds from around the world.

I was never a big Burgundy drinker but I know a La Tache or Vosne-Romanee when I taste one. I preferred the big Bordeauxs such as any Rothchild or Cos de Estournel or Le Orm de Pez etc etc. One can find for around 25-35 dollars a bottle a nice 4th or 5th growth Bordeaux or a Bordeaux 2nd or 3rd house label that will absolutely blow away anything Kali has to offer for 3 times the prices. Les Carraudes or Duhart-Milon are great examples of the latter bargain.

The practice of using blood to clarify wine was banned in France in the late 90s because of the fear of mad cow disease. It was never a common practice to begin with.

In any case, you'll get a much better wine for the money by buying domestic.

"Has anyone in America ever gotten Mad Cow from drinking French wine?"

Yeah, but back then they were called "War Brides"!

Talk about a multi-facetted problem! Boycott French Wines...fine, but what to replace them with? California Wines (another communist state!), New York Wines (same deal!), New Mexico Wines (maybe)or Chilean Wines.

Oh, well, there are always the Aussies!

Speaking of domestic wines, check out: 'Two Buck Chuck' Changing Wine Habits

Tried it. Not bad. And cheap - $1.99 per bottle.

Well, the bottles ARE pointed on one end, and have a nice wide surface to grip on the other. As far as I am concerned, the Frogs can go insert the pointed end of each of their bottles of wine (sans lubricant of course) into the nearest convenient ...

I agree California is becoming a communist state, with unprecidented spending, enormous unions, self serving bearucrates, and extreamist protesters hating the very soil they are on.

That being said, don't get nasty and compare us with France.
