France (and England) refused to help Poland when the German Nazis invaded despite a treaty between the three. Why should anyone expect them to help anyone else?

Actually, England DID honor the treaty to defend Poland. At long last, they had seen the light. Chamberlain was still PM and he came to realize the error of appeasment.....too late for him, England and the world.

This action initiated WWII officially.

You forgot one "little" detail. The 1939 invasion of Poland was a joint Nazi-Soviet operation.
