Are You Listening to This? Hispanics On Edge of Revolt Over Estrada!
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 2/13/03 | LS

Posted on 02/13/2003 12:03:45 PM PST by LS

The Dems stepped in it, big time. Hispanics have been calling in to Rush---he took four in a row, and said he could have taken 100 today---who are outraged over the Dems' treatment of Estrada.

Every one claimed to be either a Dem or a "former" Dem, with a couple of them virtually switching today. They ALL spoke highly of Bush. The idiot Dems have no idea how badly this is hurting them!!!

"My concern is with W's GOP, whose stand on illegal immigration is strangely similar to that of Clinton's Demo gang - get as many of them illegals naturalized ASAP so that they could vote for us."

Indeed! And a peculiar brand of political correctness at that.

I called my senator's office in DC and talked to her snotty assistant regarding Estrada and why the good senator opposes his nomination. Well, the snike assistant hissed, "President Clinton nominated several hispanic judges and were all turned down by Republicans. And, I had better do my research before I call the senator's office insulting her decision to oppose Estrada because he won't answer questions concerning Roe vs. Wade and some Brown act."

I said I thought he did not have to answer these sort of questions and that the good senator's reasoning was subjective and it' s politics as usual. I also told her some of my hispanic friends and family member were very excited about Estrada's nomination and that they were democrats who were seriously considering leaving the party."

Her answer was to hang up on me. Typical liberal attitude.

The Cubans have not been big fans of the Dems ever since JFK did to them at the Bay of Pigs what he and Bobby were doing to Marilyn Monroe at the time: Sweet-talked them into action, got them all hot to trot -- then pulled out, leaving them high and dry.

I'm listening to that clip ---- I think it would be a bit patronizing to mail that to every Hispanic I know. For one she didn't know before what a "filibuster" was, she says she's going to vote for Al Sharpton and George Bush now. I don't see this as the right approach and I think it'd be better to examine what happened to the "Hispanic" vote between Reagan's election ---when he got the majority to the Clinton election who also got a huge majority to Bush who got about 30%.

Bob,

I appreciate your outrage about Bork and I share it. But Estrada does not have the paper trail of Bork. His written opinions are not as sharp as Bork. In addition you did not address my corresponding point: is Estrada more conservative than the three judges confirmed prior to him? If he is not, or if there is no way of knowing, then the only other difference is ethnicity.

I, too, want to have the issue of race, sex and all the other dividing lines removed from consideration. Unfortunately, the Left is so enmeshed in class, race, religion and sexual politics that they have become the de-facto racists of this day.

It then becomes the duty of everyone who despises the attempt to divide us along these lines to denounce those who do. To do otherwise is to deny a hateful reality. The motivation of those on the Left may not always be the belief in the innate inferiority of minorities. However, they all agree that their political future depends on their ability to keep “their” minorities on the Liberal plantation.

Today we honor those who were brave enough to break the bonds of Jim Crow. But to do that, these activists had to point out the racism of its practitioners and the evil they were committing. We are not sinking to the race-baiting level of the Left when we do so, we are pointing out a sad, but necessary, truth.

So why address them in Spanish

For the same reason one would address a group of veterans on Veterans Day. Or a black church in celebration of Black History month. Or a synagogue in memory of the Holocaust.

The politician attempts to show a certain group he/she understands its particular concerns. Speaking Spanish emphasizes Dubya's relationship with Mexico and the Hispanics in his family. Smart move.

First, you make my point with every post. Second, I did indeed try to separate the legal RIGHT and that which is "GOOD" from reality. Legally, not one person should be in the U.S. who hasn't come here through proper channels. But you know as well as I that I really don't have to say that---that is a straw man.

The issue is whether or not the solutions proposed by people like Buchanan---an "immigration freeze" or putting "troops on the borders" will work, and the answer is no. You want to ignore the reality that there are very low-wage jobs that only these people will do, and that there are millions of American consumers who want low prices that can be delivered only by use of low-wage labor; and that you cannot arrest every businessman or farmer who employs such people. That is the "reality" that you, sir, are unwilling to face.

Your only legitimate point is that SOME of the Hispanics who are here legally realize this threat, and my point is that the GOP must convince ALL of the legal Hispanic citizens that it is in their best interest to stop the flow of illegals, and only by ensuring their cooperation will be ever be able to pass the laws needed, and put sufficient COMMUNITY enforcement behind such laws.

And to harp on the millions of dollars spent is another diversion. No one I know of is in favor of giving ANY illegal a penny's worth of ANYTHING. So stick to the topic.

And if you don't like the GOP, go to the Libertarians. They favor totally open borders, with no restrictions whatsoever.

It's a fine distinction that others here don't see either. But I think there is a difference between "trying to paint them as racists" (which most are not) and "trying to show their utter contempt for their voting blocs" (which they do) and to show their total hypocrisy. THIS is why we must emphasize race---not because we are "pandering to race," but to illustrate that Dem tactics of pandering to race have gotten the various races zip!

I think you make a good distinction, and have no problem making the argument you describe, based on the Dems hypocrisy and exploitation of their core voting blocs.

But in the long run I don't think those arguments will change many minds. It is only when the GOP can convince minorities that our policies are actually more in their interest than Dem policies that we will make real inroads.

Before 9/11 I would have agreed with you. But I saw so many people switch their entire thought process after 9/11, including Rosie---hardly a conservative. I just think that the reality of the international situation has landed like a meteor on the heads of these people.

Yeah, according to his logic we should bring about 100 million Chinese to fill all those low wage jobs that even the Mexicans won't do because so many of them now receive more than enough $ from welfare. Add to that his line of reasoning (?) about those poor employers that shouldn't be arrested because they happen to employ some illegals when we all know they're cheating the system like crazy while pocketing all those extra $$ they used to pay TAXPAYING Americans! How ignorant can you get! Anyway, it's an open forum.. which will attract it's fair share of lightweights

I'm not sure where to start because it's been a while since I've heard such nonsense. Since you regard yourself as such an astute observer of our need for low wage workers why not follow your line of reasoning to the next logical step and import about 100 million Chinese so that you can get your lawn mowed four times faster than it would be by a single Mexican. Never mind that your taxes will go up even more to pay for you guessed it....more taxpayer funded services for them.

I find it hard to swallow the fact that troops wouldn't work to seal the borders. Under Homeland Security we have our airports manned with troops ready for WWIII along with security personnel shaking down little old ladies yet we don't have the will to protect our own borders from criminals and possible terrorists? Doesn't that strike even you as a bit odd? We have thousands of troops in Korea doing exactly what you say can't be done here...how can that be? What's the difference between protecting our own border vs. S. Korea's?

Finally, your little snit about "harping on millions of dollars spent" is also laughable. First of all, it's in the tens of billions yearly, no small amount for a fedgov that still owes Social Security over 25 TRILLION $ and now wants to make Mexican illegals eligible for regular monthly Soc. Sec. payments. Isn't that special?....and the real neat part is that under the Bush administration proposal these illegals can include time spent working in Mexico to help with qualifying.....just another case of "compassionate conservative stupidity"!

No, I've not liked the GOP for some time because I smelled a rat when all those alleged super conservative Repub's in Congress continually came to Bill Clinton's rescue time after time to rescue his presidency time after time when even his own party wouldn't support him on NAFTA, GATT, WTO, CRIME BILL, etc. In case you can't figure it out both parties have become Socialist Party A and B with their continual support for more and more welfare programs and services for these new immigrants....all at the expense of our children's future. You may not agree, feel free to be as ignorant and arrogant as you like because reality will find it's way to you someday.

The harsh reality is that the cure is going to make a lot of people who are still quite comfortable, with the situation as well as economically, uncomfortable. The argument is not just about Mexican nationals and illegal aliens, it's who directly benefits from perpetuating the situation as it is. In the long run it is much better to deal with the situation sooner rather than later regardless of all the justifications and denials for not dealing with it now. If I choose to sell out my country and my children's future for 20 pieces of siver today, what does that make me?

I see way too many people who are willing to betray this country for their personal comfort and greed.

While you may be right, this is absolutely nothing new. It has been going on since at least 1950. Only the rise of the Great Society really caused it to escalate out of control, and that can be turned back.

In the end, it is like the War on Drugs---utterly unwinnable through laws and police and border patrols. Like the WOD, it may be morally right, and the laws should remain in place and, to the extent that we can enforce them, enforce.

But again, this is NOT the answer. The answer is on the supply side: to make it so obvious to American Hispanics who would encourage people to come across that it is NOT in their own best interests to do this that they don't offer encouragement, or shelter, or protection. On the labor side, I don't think the answer is economic or legal. That is, I don't think that passing more stringent anti-employer laws will do ONE THING to stem the flow. Rather, I think the answer is cultural.

The U.S. must turn around the notion that menial, physical work is undesirable; that even as a career, jobs such as maids, gardeners, farm work, has value and dignity; that every kid will not and should not go to college (this would involve not only changing attitudes but also the idiot "scholarship" program which subsidizes people to go to college who have no business being there. This would be a start. If an employer had an American he could hire at $5, vs. and illegal at $3, I think he would take the American. But when you get to jobs that are $10---and still few Americans will take them---but you can hire illegals at $3, there does become an economic prohibition against hiring Americans. Again, though, this is not economic, but cultural.

Finally, you are likely already one of those "betraying your country" for greed, because I guarantee you are eating or using products picked by or produced by illegals. Many of the hotels around Vegas (though not most of those IN the city, due to unions) are illegals. Much of the restarurant help in cities such as San Diego or Phoenix or El Paso (and on and on) are illegals. I'm not blasting you personally, but trying to show how hard it is for ANYONE to say, "I won't participate." It's like "movie boycotts." Good luck. Anytime you rent a movie by certain studios, you give Alec Baldwin money. It can't be helped.

IMO Livung with certain realities is not betrayal. Refusal to act, out of lazyness or inscrupulous lust for money , is.

The old saying "A journey of a thousand miles start with but one step" seems appropriate here. If we do not have an official policy to curb the flow, then we as citizens must act responsably to effect a change. Hand wringing, justifications and denial are well, just hand wringing, justifications and denial.
