The Dems stepped in it, big time. Hispanics have been calling in to Rush---he took four in a row, and said he could have taken 100 today---who are outraged over the Dems' treatment of Estrada.
Every one claimed to be either a Dem or a "former" Dem, with a couple of them virtually switching today. They ALL spoke highly of Bush. The idiot Dems have no idea how badly this is hurting them!!!

I most certainly have heard of LaRaza. Have you ever heard of the skinheads? The IRA? I can name you any number of Euro-originated hate groups and "independence" movements. These people are marginal. They are NOT to be ignored, but they are far, far outside the mainstream. I knew many Mexican families growing up. I never met one that talked about La Raza.
We could talk about a freeze on immigration. But I oppose any nation-specific immigration. If we are going to freeze some, freeze all. Course, then our colleges would have no computer science or math graduate assistants. But we could do without engineers for a few years, right?

Also there is this cost which apparently will have to be picked up by state taxpayers ----and Texas is already trying to solve a $15 billion state budget deficit:
Congress cuts funds to help Texas pay for jailing illegal immigrants

THey should be outraged. Dems want to keep them under their thum and only pay lip service to higher ideas.Hope they get a good look at what Dems want to do for them.

No, it doesn't "give credence to quotas." It acknowledges that there are different races and that they do have different concerns, and that went for the Germans and the Irish too. And any party that ignores those differences, any more than it fails to emphasize its conservative ideology, is doomed.

Oh puh-lease. I worked as a public school teacher. Despite how the "cost of education" figures out, it ain't no $35,000 per year per person. You can do better than that.
I've got one for you, though: this is a free country. Why don't you start a movement to purchase ONLY products made without immigrant labor. Find someone here on FR who has a farm and use no illegal labor and you pay your $7 per tomato. See how many takers you have.

Obviously when some refers to people here illegally and are on welfare, they
aren't referring to people here legally who own thriving businesses.
Wanting to stop illegal immigration does not make one a racist, no matter how many times you attempt to make that point without ever coming out and saying it.
Mexico goes to great lengths to keep illegals from crossing THEIR southern border, but expect us to open ours up. Aside from being morally wrong, following that policy will be the death of this country as we know it.

Your question of why they stay[ed] is a good one, and one I ask not only of Hispanics but of many blacks and most Jews. The answers are 1) history. It took the blacks 65 years to abandon the GOP when the GOP abandoned them after 10. People don't like to change . . . anything. When your party view is reinforced through relatives (who are in the same situation), some cultural mags or liberal tv or radio, well, it is just tough. 2) Promises. The Dems, as we both know, are good liars. They have lied to the blacks for 65 years and to the Hispanics for about 40. It's an abusive relationship. As we know from psychology, a lot of times it's tough to admit that you've been lied to. This is why this is important: we need to show that the DEMS HAVE BEEN LYING ON ISSUES OF RACE

What has being in an Army have to do with what we are talking about
In either case talking to a group of people who only understand Spanish and urging them to call their representatives because the democrats are screwing a Hispanic American is no different than the democrats doing the same thing by asking them to support somebody because of race or etnicity
Might work as a political tactic but that is what we criticize the democrats for

Per family ---I didn't say $35,000 per person ---but maybe it's that for the free college we're also expected to provide.

No, doesn't hold up. We pay (let's use the term) "white" teens $10-12 an hour for nothing work in the suburbs. Know what? They won't do it. There is a cultural view, reinforced by magazines, TV, and so on, that "service" work and hard physical labor is not acceptable. So kids are willing to be lifeguards or work at Kings Island or sometimes wait tables for $5 an hour, but they WILL NOT PICK COTTON.
Now, you can whine about this being a "canard" but this is my area of study, more or less---business economic history---and all the evidence is that there are things much deeper at work than just the DOLLARS.
For example, go to any U.S. high school, but preferably a "white" one. Ask, "If I were willing to pay you $40,000 a year upon graduation, would you work as a maid in a hotel? Or as a dishwasher? Or as a butler?" In many cases, you'd find that these kids would not do those jobs even if they paid double that, because of the SOCIAL dislocations. These jobs are looked down on, they are not "rewarding," they aren't "fulfilling," and all the other stuff, rightly or wrongly, that we are told jobs must be. The work WILL NOT GET DONE.

Ah, but you have not shifted the terms of the debate from immigration to welfare. I agree on welfare, but that is not the issue.
Even with no welfare, you would not stop people from coming in, because there are jobs that "Americans" won't do. You can say, "well, they won't eat." Maybe, but I can tell you that the psychology of our culture is such that native-born Americans of any color are NOT going to be cotton-pickers (unless it is their own farm) or door-openers, or hotel maids (unless they are VERY expensive hotels).

Ah but the vast majority of blacks think Thomas is an Uncle Tom who helped Bush steal the election and Powell and Rice at the convention did squat for Bush and he was playing for black votes by having them speak
How many of the Hispanics outraged about what is being done to Estrada are conservative to begin with.
And what about liberal hispanics the dems going to be able to convince them he is a uncle Tom type ( or what ever the Hispanic version is )

Depends on how big your family is. But having taught in a migrant farm community, I can tell you that those kids couldn't WAIT to leave school so they could go to work . . . picking cotton.
I think maybe you haven't spent enough time around the migrant farm worker community to know what they value. It isn't our "education system," and it really isn't our medical system---which I admit they use, and absolutely shouldn't---but it is our WORK and (to us, pitifully small) paychecks.

"Grenell no debería olvidar que casi la mitad de los EU pertenecía a México no hace muchos años y que el voto de nuestros paisanos es decisivo para meter a un presidente en la Casa Blanca."
This is from a Mexican newspaper ----"el voto de nuestros paisanos es decisivo para meter a un presidente en la Casa Blanca" ----the Mexican government intends to gain control over the US using their citizens' votes. The vote of our countrymen decides who is put in the White House.
