Prayer Thread for Yellow Rose of Texas - THIS IS NO DRILL!!
Posted on 02/13/2003 11:28:49 AM PST by TEXOKIE
Long time Freeper Yellow Rose of Texas has recently had an attempted back surgery during which her aorta, which was encased in scar tissue, was nicked and had to be repaired. In a previous prayer thread, many many folks have graciously offered their prayers and comments of encouragement to her. I spoke with Yellow Rose of Texas yesterday and here is the latest!
Her recovery to the previous surgical attempt to do the back surgery has been phenominal. She saw her doctor two days ago on Tuesday. She is doing well enough that he has scheduled her back surgery in a week for TUESDAY FEBRUARY 18, 2003. She had initially been told it would be a few weeks longer to recover, but she has amazed her doctor and he judges that she is ready for the next procedure.
Rose has asked me to thank you each and every one so very much for all your thoughts and prayers on her behalf. She asked me to quote her,
"Thank you so much. I feel each and every one of your prayers. The Good Lord is with me and my family. I dont feel scared at all. This surgery will stabilize my back and it'll all be fine. I feel so protected. I am hoping that this surgery will enable me to once more return to the freeping that I enjoy. It has seemed in my life that if something unusual can happen, it will happen to me. Please pray that the surgery be routine. NO SURPRISES!! LOL!!"

So happy to hear the good news! All these 'nicks' bother me, but it just shows how good Rose's constitution is to overcome them.
No time to be a hero---- let the painkillers do their thing. I think if I had to be on my back for that long, I'd want to be comfortable!
Please ask her family to give her a gentle {{{{{hug}}}}} from us.

Great news! Belated thanks for the update, TEXOKIE! I FReep on a laptop and I leave it at work during the week, so I didn't see this update until this morning.
Get well soon, Yellow Rose of Texas. God speed your recovery.

UPDATE Noon CST:
I just got off the phone with Rose! She sounded very upbeat and chipper. She is, as expected, flat on her back. She says that her pain levels are much better today. They adjusted her medication so she has been able to get good rest and sleep. In fact I called just after she had a shot, and I was able to talk to her before she slipped into the ethers.
Mrs Rose and Rose's daughter are both doing well. Rose is doing well enough that Mrs Rose felt confident enough to leave the hospital for a little while to run some errands. The daughter is attending school.
QUOTE FROM ROSE:
I asked if there was anything in specific she wanted us to focus our prayer work on today, and her immediate response was "Recovery!" She also added, "I feel so wrapped in a blanket of health and healing. I feel so secure. I'm getting GOOD sleep. Thank you each and every one for your prayers. I feel them and I have the belief that they saved my life, especially in the surgery right before this one."
A PRAYER
Our Father in Heaven,
You have answered us so specifically and generously! Thank you for helping Rose with the pain she was suffering last night. Thank you for your mercy in this matter. Thank you for guiding the doctors and nurses in finding the proper balance of medication to solve the problem. Thank you for the mercy of the medication itself! We continue to pray for the reduction in pain, and the healing of the cause of it, especially the pain which has caused her to be away from us for so long.
Father, we concentrate our prayers today on her recovery process. Father, let our prayers be used for clearing the way of any and all obstacles which would seek to prevent the full and lasting recovery which is according to your Plan for her. We know that in the past, Rose has suffered from vulnerability to infections following surgeries. We pray that all wound care will be sterile and done according to proper protocols. We are grateful that she has good pain management, for that affects the immune system. We ask that anything else which affects her immune system will be handled according to thy will.
We ask for the clearing of the way for her physical recuperation. Let the nerves and muscles and blood vessels heal in such a way that she is able to have the maximum use of her limbs. We are grateful that the old scar tissue which was interfering with her nervous system in her lower back and body has been largely detached or removed, according to the report from Mrs Rose last night. We do pray for a miracle of healing in Rose's body, especially that site of old scar tissue and the nerves and blood vessels which were involved. Clear the way for the most effective physical therapy, when that time comes.
Father, again, we ask that our prayers and petitions on behalf of Rose will be multiplied so that any of your children who have similar need may also be assisted by your Grace. Rose reported that our earlier petitions for her to be swaddled in our prayers has actually come true. Please continue holding her in your arms for us. Bless all of your children in need. We ask this all to be done according to thy will and timing, in the Name of the One You Sent.
Amen

Tell Rose to be well, and that we're all pulling for her and anxiously waiting for her to get better -- but to do what she's supposed to do and not to overdo...;)

Thank you dansangel. We understand that written response can sometimes be difficult. We are grateful for all of your prayers, written or not, for it is our God who hears them.
Thank you for asking God's blessing for me. However, I must say that it is my honor to be able to keep Rose's many friends informed as to her progress.

You are welcome for the report, Frog Mom! Thanks so very much for being there!
"Is that doctor's name "Nick", by any chance? Sheesh!"
ROFL!! How funny! Upon reflection, though, it is my understanding that the scar tissue was quite massive and unformed with so many vessels and nerves involved that it is a total miracle that more werent cut or nicked. This was a very delicate process, and the nicks were considered part of the known risk, as I understand it. I think, and Rose confirmed it as well in several conversations I had with her over the last few weeks, that our prayers made the difference and gave that doctor an edge to his already considerable skill.

I'm glad things are going well with you, Mr Magoo! Thank you for your generous response to this particular prayer thread. It amazes me how God made us to desire to reciprocate the good things. We truly are created to desire at deep levels to follow the Golden Rule. When things get down to life/death, and we are faced with the essentials, it becomes more clear that when we see others fighting for our very life, we desire to fight for others when given the opportunity. Thank you again for your valiant efforts on Rose's behalf.

I agree with you about the strength of Rose's constitution. She's built to last, isnt she?
My father had a similar constitution and you are reminding me of a comment one of our favorite doctors made following one of his surgeries, "Awww, you couldnt kill him with a claw hammer!" LOL
I agree that the number of nicks seems to be cause for concern, but as I understand it that was part of the known risk and part of the reason for why this particular surgery was so delicate. I expressed some thoughts on this point in a post to Frog Mom just a little while ago. (Sorry I dont have the post number.)
I am grateful too, that she isnt trying to play the hero and tough out that pain. That would be the wrong thing to do, imho.
She stated today that she is feeling our prayers as a blanket, so I'm sure she has gotten your hug!
