Sometimes I wish that our Congress would adopt the demeanor of the British hearings. I watched a bit on Cspan last night and those Brits get up and yell and here here each other all over the place and object and won't shut up when they disagree.

We are too polite and let the liberals ramble on and on.

I'd want them to be focusing on the latter. It's ocmmon sense.

Of course, the Dems don't seem to have any common sense...

If what you say is true, and I don't doubt you, what strategy will Frist use to keep the Senate in session? Just refuse to allow a vote for adjournment?

Yeah, I noticed the debate is proceeding under unanimous consent.

I assume the Reps are waiting untill the Dems are politically damaged by their obstruction- then call for a cloture vote when there aren't enough Dems present to block it.
The Dems would consider a "midnight vote" a partial victory [unless there is politicial damage from their obstruction]- better even than a recess appointment IMHO.

This Filibuster readout relates to legislation, distinct I believe from the matter at hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Jefferson/Washington anecdote is TERRIBLE. Washington was always asking Jefferson for advice. The legalities were quite confusing to Washington. At one point in time, Washington even wrote the Senate "I know you know what you mean, but"...and continued seeking clarification of a matter of how the system works. (Library of Congress-GW Papers)

Tell me about it! I love question time in the house of commons?. The vast majority of sinawhores and congresscritters would be shown for what they are. The entire nation would see many of them for the idiots they are.
Talk about reality TV. I bet they could do it prime time and ratings would be sky high. The american people would get a education on just how dumbed down we have become.

It was my understanding that the same rules re: filibuster apply...they have simply NEVER been used for a judicial nomination.

"Republicans won't file a cloture motion because they think that sets a bad precedent"

That's interesting, do you happen to remember who said this?

Lazio and Guiliani both tried painting her as an extremist- the best that either could do in any polls was a dead heat. With 6 years under her belt, and once again, I contend that the liberal media in NY is all powerful, she could probably beat Pataki (especially if the economy doesn't heat up), and quite possibly even Guiliani. 4 years is an eternity in politics, and if Guiliani hasn't been elected to anything by then, his opportunity may have passed. I hate this lying witch more than anyone, unfortunately, we're stuck with her. For as long as she wants it.

This reeks of hypocrisy,

Yes, it does! Sen. Hatch said that the same liberal lawyer who recommended that the Dem. Senate obstruct when President Bush was elected is there today to advise the Sen. Dems.

This would be a perfect opportunity to illustrate the absolute bias of the mainstream press...if we had a big enough soapbox to reach our freedom-loving compatriots around the world. Meanwhile, AP is a "non-profit" feeding DNC talking points to over 200 countries, 24/7.
