Suspicous Truck Investigated On Whitestone Bridge

The Whitestone Bridge between the Bronx and Queens is closed in both directions as police investigate suspicious truck.

Police did not say why they stopped the truck or what it might contain.

Transit officials say drivers should use either the Throgsneck Bridge or Triboro Bridge as alternatives.

NY1 has a crew on the way to the scene, and updates to this breaking story will be posted as soon as more details become available.

what I'd like to know is what made them stop THIS truck; you have to figure most trucks will have packages of some sort......was it because this truck had a M.E. driver?

It seems like you would have to stop a whole lotta trucks if it was simply because the driver is ME. There has to be more to this.

channel 5 in nyc reports that man of middle-eastern descent has been taken into custory "for questioning" about the truck.

If that's true (and such rumors have come and gone before) then I revise my prediction. Somebody spotted them, freaked out, and called the cops.

Whitestone Bridge goes from Queens over to the South Bronx. When I was a kid there was a Day Camp for kids in its shadow.

Will be interesting.

Last thing showed was what was probably an ATF agent opening the driver's side door.

Truck was a white panel, approx 5 ton, bull-nose cab (Isuzu?).

Two agents were visible, one went to passenger side, the other opened the driver's side door. The driver remained motionless.

The driver had tried to evade seizure and several "O" tracks were visible from the driver driving around several parked cars inside a large parking lot.

The entrance to the parking lot (just off a major freeway) had a larger American Flag flying proudly.
