WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans have apparently heeded the U.S. government's advice to prepare for terror attacks, emptying hardware store shelves of duct tape.
On Tuesday, less than 24 hours after U.S. Fire Administrator David Paulison described a list of useful items, stores in the greater Washington, D.C. area reported a surge in sales of plastic sheeting, duct tape, and other emergency items.

He said that in the first 48 to 72 hours of an emergency, many Americans will likely to have to look after themselves. Oh, the horror! Americans looking after themselves without Big Brother.

Thank goodness those knuckle-dragging seventh-century cretins in filthy nightshirts will only unleash their mayhem late on a Sunday night when most everyone is safely at home.

Does anyone know exactly what it would take to actually have a red alert? I mean if we're out buying duct tape for code orange - is the prep for code red "see your local cleric"?

Methinks the people doth fret too much.
I'd LOVE to hear how BULLET makers are having to go into overtime, and how GUN manufacturers are firing up new assembly lines because the American people are preparing to protect themselves against these murderous pricks.

Did anyone see Daschle making a joke out of the "duct tape" tonight on TV ...??
I was stunned! He's ridiculing our domestic plans to keep the public safe. These people are really sick.

I almost lost control of my gas guzzling SUV tonight. A CBS commentary on our local radio show was opining on how "our generation" did the "silly and useless" duck and cover thing.
He then proceeded to ridicule the Homeland Security warning to have plastic and duct tape available "just in case". He was of the opinion that all precautions were just a useless as the duck and cover manuver and closed by commenting that we have come full circle to "duct and cover". What an a$$.

In WWII, people had more information of Civil Defense, after the attack on Pearl Harbor in a matter of months than we have now from our Federal government. I am disgusted.
