Well, that makes everything perfectly clear. I don't have any more questions. Case closed.

The picture, finally. Good job getting that.
The damage looks huge.

What the heck is that? Hi-res my butt, looks more like a thermal image than RGB.

Perhaps we should all look up the word "confirm" in the dictionary....
:)

The proportions look really strange on that photo. For one thing, the front of the orbiter looks more slender and "pointier" than the blunt nose of the shuttle, and the wingtips don't look right either.

What the heck is that? Hi-res my butt, looks more like a thermal image than RGB. That is what hi-res looks like when the object being imaged is more than 200,000 feet up above you. If you are thinking you have seen a better close-up photo somewhere of the re-entering shuttle, then you are mistaken. This is as good as it gets.

I agree. Finally a picture. That Kalifornia astronomer that won't release his pics of the shuttle makes me want to jack-slap him.

Aside from the fact this photo looks like it would fit in quite well with that one sequence in the "Austin Powers" movies (y'all know what I'm talking about), how in the world does anybody see "damage" here? Am I just missing something obvious?

Did they degrade the picture before releasing it?

What the heck is that? Hi-res my butt, looks more like a thermal image than RGB. I used to make better images than that on my 286 computer using Windows Paint.
That looks like a two-pixel distortion.

picture bump

The damage isn't next to the fuselage like I heard. With the angle of the photographic perspective, it looks to be a ways away from the fuselage.
