CNN just announced that President Bush will speak at 4:30. That's all they said. Didn't sound like it was previously scheduled.

I think President Bush is infuriated by the response in the UN by the likes of China, and the others to Sec of State Powell's convincing presentation. He has come out, seconded what Sec Powell said, and then said - the game is up. This President EXPECTS other nations to act in the best interest of the world. He must understand, however, that not all nations CARE about anything but their own power and influence. China, for instance, is proving that it is not our friend.

So are the Hillary Clinton-led Democrats. (ignore their words - watch their deeds). Hillary CLinton will be passing along top secret information (if she gets access to it) to our enemies from her position on the Senate Armed Services committee - and our enemies know they can count on her treacheries to help them avoid the worst of our military surprises. She is a traitor and must be arrested NOW before any military actions begin! Do not ASSUME she is anything OTHER than a willing assistant to these terrorist nations!!!! She has also SHOWN her true colors - and must NEVER be trusted to do what is good for America - only what may be good for those trying to destroy those she opposes in AMerica!!!!!

I figure we'll give 'em the week -

I don't think we'll do anything until after the Muslims have gotten back to their homes from their pilgrimage (starts on the 13th). So that would make it the end of the month.

My two cents: President Bush held this hastily called press conference in order to see what the Iraqis response would be. Saddam and his henchmen watch CNN, like all world leaders, and probably thought we were going to announce bombs were in the air. We have people on the ground who can tell us what the response of the Iraqi army was, which will help us when we do go in.

"Iraq has mounted spray devices on unmanned aerial vehicles that if launched from a vessel off our coast could reach hundreds of miles inland."

Hey! Looks like a fun warm-up for the Screamin' Eagles!

(02-06) 14:11 PST (AP) --  Developments in the Iraq crisis:

* President Bush said world leaders "must not back down" from Saddam Hussein and demanded quick action to disarm Iraq. Bush said he would be open to a second U.N. resolution, but only if it led to prompt disarmament.

* Secretary of State Colin Powell told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the crisis will be brought to a conclusion "within weeks."

* An Iraqi biologist submitted to a private 31/2-hour interview with U.N. weapons inspectors, the United Nations said. Hours earlier, chief U.N. nuclear inspector Mohamed ElBaradei demanded a "drastic change" to improve Iraq's cooperation.

* Iraqi officials dismissed Powell's testimony presented to the United Nations as full of fabrications.

* Turkey's parliament voted to allow the United States to begin renovating military bases and ports, a first step toward opening the way for U.S. combat troops. The vote came after Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said Turkey had no choice but to back Washington in an Iraq war.

* NATO Secretary-General Lord Robertson gave France, Germany and Belgium until Monday to decide whether to stop blocking a U.S. request for the alliance to protect Turkey in case of war with Iraq. Under a so-called "silence procedure" agreed upon Thursday, military planning would begin automatically to deploy early warning planes, missile-interceptor batteries and anti-germ warfare units to Turkey -- unless any of the allies raised an objection by Monday morning.

* French President Jacques Chirac said the evidence furnished by Powell "justifies continued work by the United Nations weapons inspectors. Iraq must answer their questions and cooperate more actively," Chirac said through a spokeswoman.

* Belgium asked the European Union to call an emergency meeting to discuss a peaceful way out of the crisis. Foreign Minister Louis Michel also said Belgium is opposed to letting NATO start planning its role in any possible war on Iraq.

* After talks with British officials, Iran's foreign minister called for a second U.N. resolution to help resolve the crisis through diplomacy.

* The legendary 101st Airborne Division received orders to deploy overseas to "support possible future operations in the global war on terrorism," the public affairs office at Fort Campbell, Ky., said.

* Powell received effusive praise from Democrats and Republicans on the foreign relations committee a day after he presented the U.S. case against Iraq at the United Nations. "I am proud to be associated with you," said the committee's top Democrat, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware.

Receive they shall. Sadly, I see that rotary launcher getting a workout with warheads a trifle more powerful than the CALCM.

umm... I don't think it's the troops that are on the hit list. But if so, I have read them chemical assualts on the Iranians weren't as effective after the first time (yes, there was more than one time) when he caught them off guard. From there after, they knew what to look for and took precautions.

Then there's Diane Sawyer and the rest of the media idiots on their way to Baghdad at this moment to do what??

They'll all get out by the 14th -- none of them want to have their ass fried or breathe toxic "smoke". Besides, there's nothing to report there anyway -- they have a "minder" with them at all times, and interviews with the Iraqi "man-on-the street" are nothing more than propaganda for Saddam. Anyone who expresses a contrary opinion is detained, imprisoned, or worse. It will be left to the junior correspondents to stay behind; they want to earn their stripes, so to speak.

Good to hear - pray you don't - but if you do - God bless you and go with you - and God be with every one of our heroes in uniform today! How much we owe them! And their families. We cannot repay.

He did everything except announce that the bombing had just commenced.

I can't help thinking of what President Bush said way back in late September, 2001 in front of Congress. "Some of our operations will be secret, even in success..." (paraphrased)

I wonder if the war has already begun. Perhaps special forces are right now neutralizing the mobile weapons labs? It might be prudent to do so while we still know where they are. I'm no war strategist, I'm just thinking out loud.
