Anti-terror police today swooped in London and across Britain amid concerns that an al Qaeda network is plotting to strike.
Seven people were arrested under the Terrorism Act during raids in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The swoop follows the discovery of ricin in a north London flat and the murder of Special Branch office Stephen Oake in Manchester.
The raids were coordinated by Lothian police, who said two men were arrested in London, two in Edinburgh, one in Greater Manchester, and a man and woman in Glasgow.
Those arrested in England will be taken to Scotland to be questioned at a secure location.
The raids were part of an operation by Lothian and Borders Police assisted by Greater Manchester Police, the anti-terrorist squad of the Metropolitan Police and Strathclyde Police.
Deputy Chief Constable Tom Wood, operations director of Lothian and Borders Police, said no dangerous substances had yet been discovered.
He said: "This was a carefully co-ordinated operation which was executed successfully.
"Since this operation is connected to another matter which is presently 'active', under the Contempt of Court Act no further information can be given out at present.
"Although searches of the addresses are continuing it is important to stress that there has been no discovery of dangerous substances at this time."
He added police inquiries were continuing and reports would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
A police cordon was in place around the ground floor flat in Rosemount Street, Royston, Glasgow. Around half a dozen police officers were patrolling outside the four-storey block of flats.
Neighbours on both sides said they heard nothing at all of the activity in the early hours.
A police spokesman at the scene said he expected the search of the flats to last for around two days.
It is understood the man and woman who were arrested have been taken to Govan police station in Glasgow.
Game, set, match.
