Local Washington news not covering this, and I would think it would be a big deal.
Admin Mod correct the Title at any rate, our Nuclear facility is "Hanford" not Hartford.

You didn't perchance see a notification for an "Amber Alert" near Hanford did you? - there is a child missing there.
To: mrweb
I hope that they haven't done something that would darken the mirrors at LIGO. (Not a particularly healthy situation for anything organic that's about either!)

Radiation alarm at Hanford may have been false alarm UPDATED 5:05 -
RICHLAND - There's an emergency alert at the Hanford nuclear reservation after a radiation alarm sounded at the K East Basin.
No evacuations have been ordered. No word on what caused the air monitor alarm to go off. The area has been locked down.
A Department of Energy spokesperson said all filters are clean and results from workers testing the air have not found any contaminants as of 4:45 p.m.
Deborah Dunn of the Energy Department says people using the nearby Columbia River between White Bluffs and the Vernita Bar have been asked to leave.
The K Basins at Hanford hold 21-hundred metric tons of spent fuel, including four tons of plutonium. The Energy Department and its contractors have been moving the fuel from the K East Basin to the K West Basin for processing.

Radiation alarm sounded at Hanford
http://www.krem.com/topstories/krem2_hanford_radiation-alarm.26fabac9.html
(Richland) A radiation alarm sounded Wednesday afternoon at the K East Basin at the Hanford nuclear reservation, forcing an onsite lockdown, the U.S. Department of Energy said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the alarm to go off, said Guy Schein, a spokesman for the Energy Department.
The alert reached the second of four levels of severity, according to Mark Clemens with the Washington State Office of Emergency Management.
Clemens confirmed that the alarms were in response to air monitoring. The alert set off sirens in an area around the Columbia River from the White Bluff area to Vernita Bridge. The sirens are designed to get people to move away from the area near the river, Clemens said.
"This is pretty rare. It's unusual to get this high," Clemens said of the air readings.
The K Basins are two large pools of water where corroded spent nuclear fuel is stored, and workers were in the process of transferring some of that fuel from the east basin to the west basin when the alarm sounded. The K Basins at Hanford hold 2,100 metric tons of spent fuel, including four tons of plutonium.
Clemens said people in the Tri-Cities area should stay put and listen for media reports of further developments.

Asking this again because I think I am on to something...
You didn't perchance see a notification for an "Amber Alert" near in Pasco, near Hanford did you? - there is a child missing there, and an Amber Alert has been issued.
Local Seattle news just is NOT covering anything having to do with Hanford.
To: HairOfTheDog
KIRO (Channel 7, Seattle) is calling it a false alarm.
