Let's get a freeper sign that travels from rally to rally (vanity)
Posted on 02/05/2003 2:18:31 PM PST by RummyChick
I can't make a sign. HOwever, I think it is a great idea to get some kind of sign or banner and send it rally to rally across the US.
If someone wants to make one and send it to me I will then forward it on to someone at the next rally via fed ex ground.
HOw about some ideas. We could do a banner and have Freepers sign the back. However, the signatures might fill up too fast. When our sign/banner ends up in Washington it will make great PR.
Freepers heard 'round the world! It would be cool to have someone overseas use it too.
By February 22 in Indy we may have already started the war.

""Free people will set the course of history".

"We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow. "

That is a cool one...
To: RummyChick
I wish I could remember who thought that one up.
To: hellinahandcart
Yea, well your reputation is down the drain again. I don't care who thought it up, you posted it.

Seriously, it might have been TRTeamer (sp?), but I don't know if Self-Search goes back far enough for me to find out for sure.

If enough people are interested in doing this then we develop the background story.
Rummychick, the Republican who adores Rumsfeld and his press briefings came up with the idea.
A collobrative (crap, I don't know how to spell that word) effort was made to come up with an idea for the banner.
Then we have the person who came up with the slogan
the person who made the sign
etc..
We weave a whole background story for the effort.
But it will be a dud deal if the sign only goes two places..hahahahahha ;-)
We have to get some interest in this deal
To: RummyChick
I know zip about sign making as the last time I did it was when I was a cheerleader many years ago...back in the Dark Ages.
If you have a vinyl sign wouldn't it be thin - and thus you couldn't really sign the back because it would show through to the other side.
To: hellinahandcart
Okay, here is the idea I have come up with.
The purpose of this is to show support to Pres. Bush, our troops, our country etc.
What if we use the Peacekeeper slogan..or something similiar that is military related.
We get a banner that can actually be signed on the back. If that isn't possible maybe we come up with something that travels along with it that can be signed or we do both.
We call VFW and American Foreign Legion etc in the town where there is going to be an organized rally and invite them to the rally. Tell them this sign is traveling America and wouldn't it be wonderful to have their signatures on the banner.
So instead of making it just a Freeper signed banner we have it a military signed banner by the people who are partly responsible for our freedom.
I think it would be very cool. And it would be appropriate to have it start out in New York City or Washington.
To: RummyChick
Well, we'd love to have it in New York (we'll have Freeper vets in attendance to get the ball rolling signature-wise).
I'll check back later for updates.

Okay, now what about this idea.
I don't know if this is feasible because I have never been done a rally in this kind of environment. What if he have a traveling guestbook. This way, people could give their support for our troops. The down side to this is it could get stolen. The peaceniks could trash it. It is too wild and crazy at some events to have it set up.
The up side is that it would be a symbol of support. At the end or some time in this process it is sent to the White House or to my hero Rummy with the hope that the book would be made available to the troops in some kind of way...even if it just the 'idea' of the support.
I suppose one way to do this would not be to send the actual book but have filler pages. This way the book wouldn't get trashed. We could put the pages in a nice presentation book. However, I like the idea of an actual book traveling the country to show that even though there will be loud voices of protest that there is support in this country.
I will buy the book once I figure out if this would work and if people would support the idea. I have thought about contacting our representatives in our state to at least let them know what is happening. I have a connection through a family member to a Senator but he is a democrat. However, once it got going if it was popular you never know who will jump on board. It would probably depend on which way the war winds blow in the country.
One of my degrees is Marketing and I am never far from that undergrad degree ;-)

Sorry, I understand you have to be in the inner sanctum. I don't want to go through that blindfolded and naked ritual, though. (No pockets for a mouse.)

Guest book idea is cool to.
The DC Chapter has a flag that rally participants have signed, it wouldn't be any more trouble to have a guest book. Offering it to the general public might be problematic, but there are always ink erasers I guess. :)

I actually think that's not a bad promotional logo for FR---a big ARE YOU LOGGED IN?? and then www.freerepublic.com underneath. LOL
It would look good tied to our barricades, along with any other banners or flags we can scrounge up. I'll see what my money situation is at the end of the week, and make a trip to the art supply store.
To: hellinahandcart
Another idea would to be do sort of a scrapbook. A person at each of the rallies could put together pictures, mementos, etc consisting of a mixture of comedy, poignancy, and outrageousness and I will put them into a presentation book. I think in some areas and some rallies a guest book might be difficult and if there was one a bunch of peaceniks might try to trash it. THough that would make a picture in and of itself. If we used filler pages then we could so some editing. It just seems there is an impact when you have a book that a Vietnam veteran can look through and see all the messages and he signs his own.
I am serious about this effort. I fully intend to try to do something that could be shown to the troops that they do have support throughout the country and I will get it in the hands of Rummy if we get enough participation and have something good ;-) But I can't do it alone. It takes some effort from people at various places around the country.
To: RummyChick
I will certainly take some pictures for you next week. The film kind (since I don't have a digital camera), so they will be ideal for pasting into a book.
There's already a nice flyer announcing the event, I'll get one of those.
I'll see what we can find in the way of a 'souvenir' too. :D
To: RummyChick
Okay, I made a banner. I was pressed for time, so it was the slogan only---additional bells & whistles to be
added to it before it makes its next stop (March 1, DC; I'll be bringing it down personally. From there we can decide where it goes next.)
I got everyone in attendance yesterday to sign it, including Curtis Sliwa and six Guardian Angels.
I also have pictures I will develop this week, if you're still planning on the scrapbook. FReepmail me where to send them.
I ws depressed as hell yesterday, watching the huge number of scumbags on the streets of NY; but if I were in the armed services, and had seen that sickening display, I'd REALLY feel like crap. I hope the banner and the scrapbook go some little way toward alleviating that feeling.
