INSIGHT -- RONALD REAGAN

Tomorrow is Ronald Reagan's Birthday (1911). In his honor, The Federalist Launched Reagan2000, the Internet's most comprehensive resource on President Reagan's life and achievements, and a touchstone for all conservatives going forward. Please visit -- http://www.Reagan2000.com

"We've grown used to wonders in this century. It's hard to dazzle us. ...We've grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we've only just begun. We're still pioneers." ++ "The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave."
++ "Evil is powerless if the good are unafraid."
++ "Listening to the liberals, you'd think that the 1980's were the worst period since the Great Depression, filled with suffering and despair. I don't know about you, but I'm getting awfully tired of the whining voices from the [Clinton] White House these days. They're claiming there was a decade of greed and neglect, but you and I know better than that. We were there."
++ "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keep moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."
++ "One legislator accused me of having a 19th century attitude on law and order. That is a totally false charge. I have an 18th century attitude. That is when the Founding Fathers made it clear that the safety of law abiding citizens should be one of government's primary concerns."
++ "Free Enterprise, not government, is the source from which our blessings flow."
++ "When you start talking about government as 'we' instead of 'they,' you have been in office too long."
++ "[G]overnment does not solve problems; it subsidizes them."
++ "National Defense is not a threat to peace; it is the guarantee of peace with freedom."
++ "We don't have a trillion-dollar debt becase we haven't taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much."
++ "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'."

This is why the Puget Sound FReeper Chapter conducts the Four Toasts of the Chapter at the beginning of each and every FReeper Meet.

(During the Clinton years, we only had three toasts.)

I'm blessed to share such a wonderful birthday with the greatest President of the 21st century. He deserves to be forever remembered at Mt. Rushmore.

remembered at Mt. Rushmore.
Mt. Rushmore is actually a finished work by a specific sculptor. It cannot be expanded, IMHO. It reflects, in grand scale, the ideology of its sculptor.

Memorials to Reagan--such as the nuclear aircraft carrier named for him--are greatly to be desired. But indeed, the books and web sites which tell future generations about how Reagan transcended Communism, whipped inflation, got the country going again, and ended the Energy Crisis are what is really important.

And when will the media get around to calling the airport in Washington "Reagan National?" We don't call JFK "Idlewilde" anymore.

Happy birthday Dutch.

Me too. Several years ago the goodwife & I bought a couple of large (campaign-style) buttons with his photo that said, "I miss Ronald Reagan!"

We all miss him.
I hope he has a wonderful birthday, tomorrow.
He has reached the oldest age of any ex-President.
