A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 2/4/03

In a day filled with emotions, tributes, and tears, President Bush and First Lady Laura attended the memorial service for the astronauts whose lives were lost in the space shuttle Columbia tragedy on Saturday. The President spoke to the crowd of at least 10,000 teary eyed mourners, and eulogized the Columbia crew. In the closing moments of his speech, Bush spoke to the children of the crew by saying, 'And to the children who miss your Mom or Dad so much today, you need to know, they love you, and that love will always be with you. They were proud of you. And you can be proud of them for the rest of your life.' The First Couple returned to Washington this evening. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya.

Well, I was going to try to compose something eloquent about today, and all the emotions we've all felt...and the way the Dose has been tonight.....

and freepersup said it all. MUCH nicer than I could dream of. I thank you for putting down in words HOW I FEEL right now.

God bless each of you. You're all dear friends.

Me ! ?

I was floored by how many,

here on the daily dose threads,

post,

no matter the style or frequency,

by writing with voices of angels,

and join together,

in lifting our souls to the heavens.

"Today was one of mixed emotions"

Today was definitely an emotional day. I usually refrain from posting on days like today, I tend to reflect on the victims and their struggles and find myself in prayer. Today I found myself wanting to celebrate life itself and by doing so would be in some way supporting those who have lost so much. What I got from our Presidents words since this terrible accident was to celebrate the lives of our brave pioneers.

I say this because I used to be involved in the very dangerous sport of drag boat racing and I witnessed three people who I considered very dear friends lose their lives competing in a sport we both were committed to. I learned very quickly that the competitive spirit is what drove us all and they lost their lives doing what we chose to do and I should celebrate their lives instead of questioning our reasons for jeopardizing them.

My point is, When you're a member of a group who pushes the limits, you understand the risk and you accept the possibilities of losing those who share your quest of becoming the best in what you do.

I made the decision to retire only after I found I lost the drive it takes to be the best, In short, I was fortunate and it was time to devote my life to my family and God.

We tend to forget, when things go right for an extended period of time, that space exploration is fraught with dangers.

It is a tribute to the men and women designing and building the orbiters and rockets, that so little has gone wrong. Likewise, at great personal risk, the men and women flying and operating the shuttles, do so out of the conviction of selfless duty for the greater good of all mankind.

It makes their loss that much more painful.

America carries many burdens upon broad shoulders and a strong back. Perhaps there will come a time when this weary traveler can lighten the pack, and share the contents with a neighbor.

Night all...

Thank you for your thoughtfulness of the flowers and saying they were from all of us, what a beautiful idea. What a day it must have been.

I once said that a true leader only comes once in a century, I stand corrected.

God Bless America & God Bless George W. Bush

A resounding "AMEN" to that!
