A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 2/4/03

In a day filled with emotions, tributes, and tears, President Bush and First Lady Laura attended the memorial service for the astronauts whose lives were lost in the space shuttle Columbia tragedy on Saturday. The President spoke to the crowd of at least 10,000 teary eyed mourners, and eulogized the Columbia crew. In the closing moments of his speech, Bush spoke to the children of the crew by saying, 'And to the children who miss your Mom or Dad so much today, you need to know, they love you, and that love will always be with you. They were proud of you. And you can be proud of them for the rest of your life.' The First Couple returned to Washington this evening. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya.

RWP - thank you for so faithfully posting these pictures for us. I usually can't get to the Dose before Morning, when it is way too late to post. But want you to know how much I appreciate it.

kayak - thanks for the prayer list. It means so much to know that people are faithfully praying for our loved ones, and that Miss Marple even wants a bracelet with their names on it - to remind her to pray. That so touches me, I don't know what to say.

Ohio - you have raised quite a man, and he so represents all the patriots who have gone before him, who have given us our freedom, and made sure we kept it. I am indebted for all those who came before, and for those who serve us now. God bless them all.

Lastly, a friend of mine, AF_Blue, supports squadrons and while he serves here in the US, he is no less a warrior, for those who've gone overseas couldn't do what they do without his computer backup - analysis and a whole bunch of stuff I'll never understand. We need to let these guys know that we appreciate them, wherever they serve.

I'm so touched by what I read here tonight. We have become a family, and as a single lady, I can't tell you how much I feel a part of y'all - how we commiserate with our sadnesses, our fears, our disappointments, and laugh with our foibles and our joys, trusting each other to say out loud and in writing, our greatest fears or hopes, and you have become my family. God bless you all.

How the heck did you get that close?

Well, there could not have been more than 30-40 people there in total. And there was only one police officer on our side of the street. A very nice lady.

They had some barriers and yellow tape but there was really nobody around to tell me not to step closer to the street. I could have jumped on the presidents limo. Which was likely not a keen idea after looking at that one van tailing him. Besides, I'm a sweet cuddly little guy that would not hurt a fly. Anyone can see that.

Seriously though. I thought the security was lacking in some ways. Ways I won't list here.

Broke my heart also, I lost my father 31 years ago today, when I was 8 years old. At the time you don't really understand it all .. you just know you miss your parent alot

I just got finished watching the memorial for the Columbia Crew, and again I was brought to tears. Then reading your post, Truth, brought those tears back to my eyes.

We have all become a family that strengthens and supports each other.

I signed on late and I must say that this is one of the best DITL threads I can remember, freepersup your prayer for my friend ohioWfan and her son Eric was one of the nicest posts I have ever read on this forum, God Bless You

This thread, without a doubt, is the most inspirational thread on this forum, All the daily threads here on Free Republic are a credit to what we conservatives stand for and I am proud to call myself a "Freeper" because of all of YOU.

This thread is by far my favorite because all of you put your political agenda and wishes aside and support our president, even if we disagree with some of his policies and/or proposals we stand behind this man because we believe he has the best interest of our country in mind and he is slowly but surely changing the direction of this country for the better. He has definitely restored the honor and dignity to the White House and the Presidency itself. God Bless him for that.

What I appreciate the most about George W. Bush is that he is here to serve all of us and not himself. I firmly believe he will lead this country like no other before him and we will be thanking him for many years. I also believe, when he has fulfilled his obligation to this country, Our Nation, as well as, the rest of the world will be a much safer place.

Ronald Reagan will always be my hero, But George W. Bush is well on his way to surpassing the accomplishments of Reagan. His vision and his moral clarity is equal to Ronald Reagan, But I believe his sincere love for the common man outshines Ronald Reagan by leaps and bounds. the fact is George W. Bush is a kind hearted Godly man who practices what he preaches, and I love him for it.

I once said that a true leader only comes once in a century, I stand corrected.

God Bless America & God Bless George W. Bush

That's because you're from Miss.

LOL! I didn't really start liking bluegrass until I was in college. My parents never listened to music much when I was growing up, but my Daddy loved the Sons of the Pioneers, and he used to piddle around on my brothers guitars. The two younger boys played guitar, one professionally for a short while.

When I was at Southern Miss, I went to a concert starring Lester Flatt and the Nashville Grass. I was hooked after that. I like the old timey stuff, I recently bought myself a CD of 'Seldom Scene', and just loved the soundtrack to "O Brother", though that was more 'old timey' than bluegrass. But I also love Newgrass. I have CDs from Skyline with Tony Trischka, and Allison Kraus.

When we were living in NJ, we used to listen to a folk music show out of Philly. They used to play a lot of bluegrass, and that's where I fell in love with Celtic music as well. They began playing some music by the Red Clay Ramblers from the music they did for a Sam Shepherd play on Broadway called "A Lie of the Mind" My favorite song was "Run, Sister, Run". I'll have to go searching for that music now!

My son is a musician too. They call their music roots & roll because it combined bluegrass with rock. We must compare notes (pun intended) some time. We're not far from Bean Blossom. If you need a place to stay let me know.

***He not only gave the little boy his handkerchief, when the little boy was done with it, his mother gave it back to the President, who stuffed it back into his pocket without missing a beat. That's the act of a dad!

I wasn't able to watch the memorial today so reading about this is so meaningful. Our President has a heart for others...a true servant.

RE: It is Well With My Soul, my sister sang that song at my Dad's funeral. There's just something so comforting in knowing the Lord has a purpose to everything under heaven.
