A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 2/4/03

In a day filled with emotions, tributes, and tears, President Bush and First Lady Laura attended the memorial service for the astronauts whose lives were lost in the space shuttle Columbia tragedy on Saturday. The President spoke to the crowd of at least 10,000 teary eyed mourners, and eulogized the Columbia crew. In the closing moments of his speech, Bush spoke to the children of the crew by saying, 'And to the children who miss your Mom or Dad so much today, you need to know, they love you, and that love will always be with you. They were proud of you. And you can be proud of them for the rest of your life.' The First Couple returned to Washington this evening. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya.

I held a 3x5 American flag 12' into the air in my left hand. I rendered the most respectful salute possible with my right hand as he passed by. I am a veteran and I am so grateful for this Commander in Chief.

So am I Freepersup .. Thank You so much for sharing your story ..

I'm not an emotional type of person, but when I look at this man, listen to him speak and read the articles of all they things he has to deal with on a daily basis .. I just tear up and Thank God for blessing our country

Regarding #78 and the picture you posted, thank you for posting that. It gives comfort that there are still good people in this great country.

That's because you're from Miss. We used to live there. In fact our musical son was born in Jackson. Hubby used to play Bluegrass and always put a band together wherever we lived. We still keep in touch with some of the people from Miss. Marty Stuart, Carl Jackson, and the Sullivan Family. Friends with Bill Monroe before he passed away. Bluegrass people are close like family too. Sort of like Freepers.

I have something to share tonight.

isthisnickcool has been working overtime for FR this week, in case you all didn't know it.

Isthisnickcool went over to NASA on Saturday with flowers from FREEPERS.....signed up for all of us.

And if that wasn't enough, today isthisnickcool got to see the president and Air Force One and the motorcade!

I'll let isthisnick fill you in on the rest, but here are the pictures!

Does anyone know who the young people were, sitting directly next to Laura today? They were having a particularly hard time of it.

Funny how we can read something and just automatically assume a situation is a certain way.

Nice profile page. I used to travel back and forth from North Carolina to Illinois many times when I was in the service. I got to taking detours to break up the monotony, and would travel back home by way of West Virginia.

Of course I had a motive- I wanted to see the New River Gorge Bridge. Some friends from circa 1978, parachuted off the bridge before it was illegal or popular. I have thought about doing it, if I can ever plan it right- and remember Bridge Day is always in October.

The kids that happened to be there were funny. They were talking about fishing and such. Then someone "just had to" explain that any plane the president is on is Air Force One. One of the boys kept spitting. I asked him "why do you keep spitting?". He says "because I'm bored and can't wait any longer for the president! I can't stand it!". I said "I'm tired of waiting too". Then me and this kid compare our spitting abilities. He was much better:)

I looked right into the presidents eyes today. Good man.

This thread has been so wonderful to read, tonight - thanks go to all.

I'm also so, so proud of our President. He is such a fine man, with wonderful people surrounding him. We Americans are so fortunate to have all that we do, and such great heros, and leaders...which brings me to my tag line, which is in response to your posting, Mo1.

Nite all - God Bless! NordP

Your pictures tell the story well- There is the one of the limo which you referred a caption to, as missing H (Dad ?) Behind the limo is a uniformed person (police) rendering a crisp salute. A civilian to the left seems like he is also saluting (or waving) Thanks-

A special thank you for the kind gesture placing the flowers at the memorial shrine in tribute to Columbia's crew, on behalf of the Free Republic community.
