I just saw a thread stating that their air craft carrier (singular, read "French navy") is in the gulf. What do we make of this in light of the current post?Probably that the propellers fell off the de Gaulle again and it can't get home.

My wife & I were planning a trip to Paris in early May. We haven't visited Paris in nearly ten years and I wanted to see the D-Day landing beaches this trip ... something I haven't done on previous visits to France. May have to visit England instead & perhaps do a day trip type thing to Normandy. These French ingrates are going to get as little of my tourist dollar as possible. I hope many more Americans planning vacation trips to France this year do the same thing ...

Urgent from the AP? Sensationalistic!
The AP is playing this up as more important than the letter signed by all those countries supporting us no doubt.

It was an equally crushing blow to the cause of good when they left NATO.
Note that is sarcasm. NATO thrived. Communism fell. The French were not missed.

This is good news. Now they won't be
able to leak our plans to Saddam.

The AP might as well have said, "URGENT!! Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead."

But Chirac will continue to insist that inspectors be given as much time as they judge necessary. So when Blix comes back and reports on 2/14 that inspections are hopeless because Iraq won't proactively coopoerate, Chiraq will have to get on board. Conversely, could it be that Chiraq has told Saddam he better give up a few goodies in the next few days so Blix has reason to say the inspections have produced something positive and given more time may actually work? Didn't yesterdays inspections yield a broken missile?

Heard the comments -- they believe inspections are working!
You cannot count on the French for anything IMO and they are not going to change their minds. Would bet when we take out Iraq that we are going to find French fingerprints in a lot of areas of items sold around the embargo.
Has clinton talked to Chirac lately? He might as well have been on the clinton payroll from the parts of the press conference I heard!
