Monday Feb. 3, 2003, 5:21 p.m. EST CBS TV Star Compares America to Nazi Germany

David Clennon, star of the hit CBS television series "The Agency," said Monday that the "moral climate" of America under President Bush is similar to that which pervaded Nazi Germany. Then, apparently not satisfied with merely insulting the U.S., Clennon contended that the only difference between Bush and Adolf Hitler is that Hitler was smarter.

"I'm saying that the moral climate within the ruling class in this country is not that different from the moral climate within the ruling class of Hitler's Germany," Clennon told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity.

When Hannity asked if Clennon was comparing the U.S. president to the Nazi leader, the CBS star replied, "I'm not comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler - because George Bush, for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler. And secondly George Bush has much more power than Adolf Hitler ever had."

The Hollywood peacenik said he was concerned that his own TV show had become a propaganda tool for the Bush administration's plans to make war on Iraq.

"I'm saying that we (Americans) have sunk pretty low and I'm saying that you can look at the moral climate in Germany in 1933," Clennon reiterated. "We have to ask ourselves if we found ourselves in Nazi Germany, what would we do?" he added. "Now I say, let the inspection process take its course."

Hannity told the actor that he couldn't wait to get a tape recording of his comments to Clennon's producers at the Tiffany network.

This Clennon is remarkably ignorant of history, but then what do you expect from a clown in Hollywood?

Yep... Clennan sounded like an ABSOLUTE MORON... Hannity asked him at one point if he actually read the UN Resolution. Clennan wouldn't answer him, kept trying to change the topic. After Hannity asked him for about the 20th time, Clennan finally admitted he had never actually even read the thing that he was trying to debate about.

I sent CBS a letter...

The man has no concept of history and is in fact an outright liar. I heard this wacko on yesterday: How dare he compare the most open, most advanced (socially and scientifically) and most free nation that human history has ever produced to national socialism of 1930's Germany. This country has millions immigrate to it every year for its opportunities.

"I'm saying that we have sunk pretty low."

You're speaking for yourself, David.

The rest of us (Americans) will stop the 21st-century Nazis and their monstrous evil.

We will not take your advice to lie down and play dead and hope that the Nazis will spare us--and our children. It is moral to stop evil, not to capitulate to it.

Perhaps you don't understand. The United States is at war with international theocratic terrorism (thank you, Hitch). We don't want to be. But dispite all our efforts, we are.

I happened to pick up the Hannity show just as this guy got on (reception down here is spotty). Anyways, I thought it was great! Sean really tore that guy a new a$$hole. The guy was an embarrassment, it was good! Made his cause look really weak, wouldn't answer any of the questions posed to him, it was a classic. I thought for a moment that this guy was a put-on, I mean, no one could possibly be that dense, but it was the real thing.

I think the lesson is that comparing everything bad in the world to the Nazi's is a silly exercise in historical ignorance and intellectual bankruptcy.

David Clennon as Palmer in the 1982 hit movie "The Thing". Both an assistant mechanic and crack helicopter pilot, mid-thirties Palmer was a drug addict who, after being released from drug re-hab, was posted at Outpost 31, where he grows marijuana hydroponically with his bunk mate Childs.

Who knows, perhaps truth is closer to fiction than we think..

Here’s what I sent to CBS and the local affiliate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Based on comments made nationally by David Clennon yesterday, Feb.4th I am writing each and every local Philadelphia advertiser (CEO, Director of Marketing, etc.) on the CBS television series “The Agency” and informing them I will never buy their products as long as they and you support this maniac.
David Clennon, of the CBS television series "The Agency," said Monday that the "moral climate" of America under President Bush is similar to that which pervaded Nazi Germany. Then, apparently not satisfied with merely insulting the U.S., Clennon contended that the only difference between Bush and Adolf Hitler is that Hitler was smarter.
"I'm saying that the moral climate within the ruling class in this country is not that different from the moral climate within the ruling class of Hitler's Germany," Clennon told nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity.
When Hannity asked if Clennon was comparing the U.S. president to the Nazi leader, the CBS star replied, "I'm not comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler - because George Bush, for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler. And secondly George Bush has much more power than Adolf Hitler ever had."
This man is a disgrace. Your network is a disgrace as well if you let this go unanswered.
It's amazing that every one of these idiots make a complete fool of themselves when they are actually interviewed. I saw that dolt that started the "take back the media" (attack on Limbaugh) on O'Reilly last night, and looked like a case of way too many drugs. Not only did he not know the facts, he was a consistent liar. It's good to get these idiots on sometime.
To this man it makes sense that Bush is as bad as Hitler. So it must make sense to him that Hitler was no worse than Bush. Is he a holocaust denier? Sure sounds like it.
I agree with you to some extent. Naziism is one thing that most people can agree upon as evil. To apply it to everything bad in the world tends to dilute its symbolism and, you're right, becomes a silly exercise in historical ignorance and intellectual bankruptcy. On the other hand, the parallels between Naziism and Islamic terrorist imperialism are too striking to be ignored, and I think the comparison is a valid one.
Hey, great idea....Can anyone bite the bullet...and watch THE AGENCY, telling the rest of us who sponsors it?
I will gladly write the sponsor and tell them I am finished as a customer of theirs..
Any other takers?
