Al Qaeda is planning a mass-casualty attack to rival September 11, but preparations have been disrupted by arrests of terrorists during the past several months, according to U.S. intelligence officials.

Recent intelligence reports indicate that communications among clandestine cells of al Qaeda members are being restored gradually, the intelligence officials said.

As for the leaders still at large, surely we know generally where some are hiding. Pakistan seems to be one likely place.

Wouldn't it be reasonable to insist that the "host" nations go to great lengths, to capture them? We haven't heard very much, about such efforts, in muslim and arab locations.

Why? Are the efforts taking place, or not? Are they taking place, without success?

Or are such efforts merely half-measures, aimed to placate the US, while not stirring up local tensions?

There you have it. Its really a real war in case anyone missed the message on 9-11. So why aren't our borders and visa procedures more secure?

Additionally, the intelligence reports stated that any major attack is likely to be preceded by smaller-scale strikes, including assassinations of prominent people in the United States,

SO SCARY, when your kids live in all different cities and you never know what might happen. It gives you a better understanding of people who lived through wars in their own countries!

You may have not "heard very much," but much has been reported (and doubtless much more has not been). Pakistan is a major haven, but the Pakis are working hard on this, are cooperating with U.S. intelligence, and their police and military personel are putting their lives in danger on an almost daily basis. Pakistan has rounded up over 400 al-Qaeda, including some of the biggest fish yet netted.

Note the A-rabs don't even tweak us with false missives or purposefully obscured voice recordings allegedly from Binnie.

He's dead Jim. They know it. We know it. They know, we know it. He got sealed in a cave, under 100 feet of rock.

Recognizing that these terrorist groups may be proxy Arab government foreign policy entities.... Decide how to effectively deal the problem once and for all. Iraq is a prime example of this same recognization and strategy to end government support:)

Five close aides of Dawood detained in Dubai

PTI[ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 03, 2003 08:48:47 PM ]

NEW DELHI: Five close aides of Pakistan-based underworld don Dawood Ibrahim including his brother Noora have reportedly been detained by authorities in Dubai, informed sources said on Monday night.

The five persons detained by the authorities are believed to also include Mohammed Dossa and Aftab Batki, the sources said.

While Dossa is wanted in connection with the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, Batki is required by New Delhi for his involvement in various cases of counterfiet currency.

Although no case is pending against Noora, he is alleged to be the main man behind various extortion rackets in India.

These five were part of the list that was handed over to the authorities in the United Arab Emirates during the deportation of Aftab Ansari, main accused in the shooting incident at American Center at Kolkata in January last year, the sources said.

My impression is that most Arabic countrys are more like the mafia than government. There are areas in their own countrys that their control is weak at best. Since all it takes is one bullet to vote the present tyrant out of office and that is how the present tyrant got in office, they spend far more time looking over their shoulders than anything else.

Pakistan is our ally, as long as we hold the gun to their heads. The minute we blink, a knife will appear in our backs. These are not "judeao-christian" nations over there.

I am sure the prez of Paki would have toasted these guys a long time ago if he was able. Now he would be glad to toast them twice, for the reward money. But for his "allies"? There are no allies in Moslem nations, only mutual respect of power.
