If a burn-through obliterated the sensor between questions,

Or the communications cable/wire.

Nope. The great soviet rocket designer Korlev called hydrazine "devil's venom" and would not allow the fuel to be used, due to it's dangerous nature. It is very, VERY bad stuff, and NASA is dead on perfect to be telling people to not touch things. We had a spill of a little of the stuff at JSC a few years ago, and the whole site was shut down for hours. No detours - just all systems stop.

You are right to understand, however, that the investigation will be harmed by moving items around. The debris is being catalogued via GPS references, so keeping everything still will help in figuring out how the orbitor broke up, and hopefully why.

My new name for the press is "disaster vampires".

That is definitely a true statement!

Do you remember when they had the hearing for Secretary of the AF for the Clintonite black Reserve officer from Florida who I believe ran in the FL RAT primary for Governor? Senator Inhofe (I believe) asked him how many flying hours he had since he was claiming all this experience -- he couldn't answer the question so Senator Inhofe said he had never met a pilot yet that couldn't tell how many flying hours they had. Turned out he had phonied up his records.

I heard this 3800 miles of flight experience and figured this clintonite could be providing the information. That would be a just a little over a flight from the East Coast to West Coast -- wonder who does the research? You would think you would get someone with flight experience to at least look over the copy before they read it!

You know, I'm thinking if that bad stuff was in something that survived 3,000 degree heat and a 200,000 foot fall to earth -- why don't we put the astronuats in that instead of the shuttle?

Someone's coming to my house at 5:00 - will have to read all about it afterwards, which is actually better for my mental health.

My mind drew a total blank -- Daryl Jones it was. I just remember when he was testifying I was hoping they would never allow him in a plane again. At the time, someone from CNN reported that he had so many miles in the cockpit instead of flying hours!

Here's a teensy bit more detail about Daryl:

Jones was nominated by former President Bill Clinton in 1998 to be the first black
secretary of the Air Force. But his fellow pilots raised questions about his integrity
and his flying skills, accusing him of misrepresenting why he stopped flying fighters
in 1992. Jones said he decided to give it up on his own. His supervisor said Jones
was grounded after scraping up his aircraft.
