Per Reuters:
Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

this is not a collective opinion from the iraqi people. it's reuters anti-american spew...quoting a government employee and a car mechanic for crying out loud (not accountable even if they do exist!)
reuters made THEIR point, however weakly: to publicize that it was allah's retribution against America's sins.
journalism is a weapon.

Now that we do, I expect less blessings and protection from God.
Why would we deserve more than that?With all due respect, I didn't ask you what you "expect", or what we "deserve". I'm asking you why bad things happened prior to Roe v. Wade, if there is indeed a relationship between Roe and God's protective "umbrella" over this nation. We have never enjoyed a tragedy-free existence, have we?
I cannot conclude that God is deliberately failing to protect and bless us because of it, when there have always been tragic events in our history.

Thanks, TR, my first thought when I read the Iraqi gloat was, "And your reason for the Challenger disaster is?"
As for joyful1, he definitely needs a new screen name.

So we agree...not ALL Iraqi people are evil incarnate and deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth. Good.

~~~But this is the tread about the loss of some of our finest heros.
Perhaps you can start a pro-abortion thread another place and time.
I don't want to keep bing dragged back to answer you...again. ~~~
Good job. And thank you.
I would complaing about their translation of "Allah" as God. Allah is not God. Allah is a lesser spirit being (if he exists at all) controlled by Mohammed, doing and speaking whatever Mohammed wished at the time.
So we agree...not ALL Iraqi people are evil incarnate and deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth. Good. I think we can agree however that these people who said that it was "God's Vengeance" were put up to it by the Iraqi government. People with unofficial opinions in Iraq, end up officially dead very quickly.
As such, Saddam should die, brutally and painfully.
You're right -- I'm done. God is with our (and Iseral's) fallen irresective of idealogy. God bless their families (they already have His blessings since they are at his side now).
Saddam proves what a class act and contributor to civilization he is once again.
At least he wont be able to make comments like this for more than another month.
This side-trip started a while back, and was brought about by a member of the "Roe v. Wade is the reason God wouldn't let me find my toothbrush this morning" gang. Just FYI.
Have your soldiers made their hotel reservations in Bagdad yet? I would have thought that showing up at the desk, armed to the teeth, would be sufficient to secure a room.
I know....I've been following the entire thread. I also reminded the poster of his intent to NOT sidetrack the purpose of the this thread by taking it off topic. Looks like he responded to the reminder....which is good, no?
