This does not make her a terrorist, but I can't help but wonder if she were a white male if she would have been given a second chance.

Ever here of Gus Grissom? He was one of the original Mercury astronauts. He was the second American in space. He was a white male. His capsule sank when the hatch door blew inexplicibly early. Many accused him of panicking and blowing the hatch. He said he did not. NASA later made him the commander of the first Apollo flight to the moon. Unfortunately, he and his crew died in a fire on the launch pad 36 years ago this week.

Also ever here of Alan Sheppard? First American in space. After his flight he was found to have a heart murmer which booted him out of the program. He was later allowed to become part of the Apollo program and eventually flew to the moon.

Humans are humans - they all make mistakes. No one is perfect.

I agree. Its amazing how for some, if a white male makes a mistake its understandable, everyone is human. However, if a person of color makes a mistake, particularly a women, then it has to do with skin color.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that it was God's retribution.

"We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.

"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.

Iraqis are braced for a possible U.S.-led war to rid their country of any chemical, biological or nuclear weapons it may possess. Iraq denies it has such weapons.

Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up over the southwestern United States 16 minutes before its scheduled landing.

The 48-year-old Israeli astronaut was a fighter pilot in the Israeli air force. He was the youngest pilot in a team that bombed Iraq's nuclear reactor in 1981. Israel said the reactor was intended to develop nuclear weapons.

"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason, now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

There were no such signs of jubilation over the shuttle disaster in any of the Palestinian territories. The official response from the Palestinians was one of condolence.

"President (Yasser) Arafat and the Palestinian Authority (news - web sites) offer their condolences to the six American families and the Israeli family who lost their loved ones in the catastrophe," Saeb Erekat, a senior Palestinian official and spokesman, told Reuters.

Erekat said Arafat had sent President Bush (news - web sites) a message of condolences over the loss of the NASA (news - web sites) space agency's shuttle. The United States, Israel's closest ally, is the chief Middle East peace broker.

Your time is coming, you pukes.

I've heard several people state that there is no indication that there was any attack FROM THE GROUND.

I think that can be pretty sure - considering their range and flight speed.

I don't think they have ruled out any other form of terrorism at this point - and I haven't heard anyone say that specifically. They just aren't talking about it.

Even a tiny amount of air would produce a tremendous amount of heat at
the speed the shuttle was traveling, right?

Absolutely right. The surface temperature of the shuttle at that point is around
2000F. The insulating tiles are good to 2300F and can be reused many times at
that temperature; they can actually go to 2800F, but they aren't useable again.

By comparison, Aluminum starts to melt around 1100F, and is liquid at 1200F.

Mine was the Kennedy assasination. We had gone to Olathe, Kansas from Joplin, Missouri to visit my aunt and cousins. I went to school with them that day. A man came in the room and brought a television with him. We watched as the news unfolded.

Thanks for your thoughts.

One NASA member said "0" to terrorism from within or without. Sounds like it began with the left wing incident.

If I remember correctly, they sacrificed any exterior repair possibility for room for the scientific experiments.
