Yes, it is, and no, I'm not, but IT STILL SUCKS
Absolutely. I hope that we'll finally design better space vehicles. A second failure that kills the entire crew should not be ignored. No bandaids will fix the problems with the shuttle. We need new space vehicles, plain and simple.
We need to stop sending these types of shuttles into space when they've now killed two entire crews.
To: McGruff
MSNBC has a different video ... perhaps they can compare the videos to find out when the vehicle broke up.

OMG what do they know that other stations don't? None of the other stations are reporting that. God I hope not!

That's terrible. What a horrible thing to see and hear. Thoughts for the East Texas community....

The shuttle exploded?? Guys, tell me what's going on, I don't have cable.....all I can really glean from the posts is that it blew up...do they suspect it was shot down? How did this happen?
To: itzmygun
I think the boom in Palestine was the crash?
To: Eaker
We heard about 3 large booms in western Louisiana... Military base nearby so no one thought much about it.
To: HiJinx
This is so tragic.
Prayers for the families.
To: Jim Noble
The shuttle is and has always been an engineering disaster waiting to happen. ????? This is Jerry Springerish. It really does not add to the truth and discussion pot we need now.
I will agree however that NASA should be under military command and not politicized. THat is the disaster. If not, for other purposes, private companies should run the thing.

Left wing of shuttle struck during launch by piece of insulation foam detaching from main lauch fuel tank.
That's the cause. No terrorism.

winodog is in the Las Vegas area and he posted this on the thread I started earlier:
It wasnt a glow that spread back like a comet but it must have been "on fire" because it was bright and big.

From your fellow FReepers at CPAC. We extend our sympathies. Alan Keyes was supposed to speak but is sick, the ballroom is crowded with people and the hotel is preparing the announcement as I post this. May God Bless their souls and comfort their families.
