This clerk should receive Brain-Donor of the Year award.

There was enough here to warrant a call to the police. If this was Laci, it might have saved her.

She claims she intended to contact police immediately after seeing the woman, but became distracted and forgot about it

This blows me away.

She [the clerk] claims she intended to contact police immediately after seeing the woman, but became distracted and forgot about it.

On the Penn and Teller BS meter, that would ring up a big BS....she got distracted, forgot....uh, oh yeh, the lady said she was being kidnapped, but she forgot!

This clerk is BSing, either for attention/15 minutes of tv time or as an associate paid by Peterson to throw the police off his trail.

So far, this story hasn't developed any legs, I checked, AP, Google News, Fox, CNN, CourtTV, Drudge, and even NewsMax and have found nothing on this story.

I'm sure they are scrambling to follow up but are being cautious.

I wonder if SP will use this as a reason to move his search to Canada?

Somehow I'm not feeling like this should be dismissed out of hand...

Nobody would WANT to come forward and admit they were stupid enough to be totally distracted by a new coupon. Plus, if you weren't too smart, and the kidnapper was just a little brighter than you, and the woman being kidnapped was a bit smarter than him, I see how things would go down this way...

The guy steps a way for a second, and the woman wants to try and leave a trail by having this lady call the cops as they walk out so hopefully they can tail the car.

But if she lets the guy know what's happening she's now just luggage that can be dropped off somewhere (like the nearest lake) while the guy tries to get to Canada and fly to Cuba or some other non-extradition rathole.

So, once the dumbass clerk actually SAYS the word kidnap in front of the man (a very dangerous move), the smarter kidnapee says "Oh, know I was just joking, he's my husband and kidnapped me for dinner."

That will make the not-as-smart kidnapper think "Oh, she must have appeared nervous to the clerk. But now she's done the smart thing and the clerk will forget about it." I'm assuming he didn't realize the clerk was ACTUALLY tipped off.

So, as they walk out, the kidnapper is thinking the clerk has been reassured, and the kidnapee is hoping that the clerk still realized something was up and will contact someone immediately. Reality lies somewhere in between the hopes of the two.

I'm not saying that was Laci Peterson, I'm just saying that of all the stories that could be told be clerks, this is not all that unbelievable if one imagines the scenario being played out in front of them.

I wonder if this clerk has started feeling sorry for Scott Peterson (since in the last few days he has began to be on TV more) and decided she would take a little of the heat off of Scott by making this report she thinks she saw Laci.

I think I saw the same pair being kicked out of a pink Cadillac driven by a fat, full-haired guy in a tight, white suit who was sporting long sideburns and wearing sunglasses and blue suede shoes...

There is always the possibility that Scot hired it done, especially if the insurance money was the motive.

Even in that particular instance do you think the murderer would take her into a store and leave her presences for even a few seconds? I don't think so, and I don't think this lead will go anywhere.

When the man returned, the clerk said she asked him if he was kidnapping the woman. The clerk said the man became angry, so she smiled and told him that her husband often kidnaps her to take her to dinner. At that, the man smiled and said "Yeah, I guess I kidnapped her."

Sheesh. This woman is a piece of work. She asks the guy if he kidnapped her then forgets to call the police because she got distracted? If she is doing this just to get her 15 minutes of fame she sure is painting herself one dumb B***H. For this convenience store worker Wish I could send it to her.

If it was a joke, then the real couple lives in the area and would contact police. It seems as if it would be worth a shot from the police perspective. If it was not a joke, no one would step forward and it would seem to have a chance of being taken more seriously (?).

According to the clerk, at one point the man stepped out of line to get an item he forgot. The clerk said she remarked on the fact that the woman wasn't wearing a coat. The woman replied that she hadn't brought a coat because she'd been kidnapped, then said the man had a weapon.

The women had a good opportunity to flee but stayed in line to casual say she was kidnapped. If she was kidnapped wouldn't she either flee or demand that the clerk call the cops immediately?

I have seldom read a report that did as much damage to a person's reputation as this one. The clerk was told the lady was a victim of a kidnapping, so what does she do? She tells the kidnapper what the woman said. Then she just simply forgets to notify the police for a month or more.

My God, how could this woman hold down a job?

Instead of the police getting a good lead they could follow up on, they now have a cold trail that could lead to Alaska or Florida for all anyone knows.

While I'm glad this clerk finally came forward, it is possible she cost Laci and her unborn child their lives.
