Peterson tackles rumors, reports

At center, Los Angeles radio station KFI radio personality Ken Chiampou broadcasts live as he and other members of the media go to Scott Peterson's side gate after he arrives home Wednesday afternoon. Peterson later ordered the media off his property.

Peterson tackles rumors, reports

Scott Peterson conducted several televised interviews at his home on Wednesday, address-ing numerous allegations and rumors surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of his wife, Laci.

By 5 p.m., more than a dozen TV trucks had set up camp near the Petersons' house on Covena Avenue in Modesto's La Loma neighborhood.

Wednesday night, Peterson called police when other reporters -- hopeful for an interview -- followed him to his back gate and remained on his property after he told them to leave. Officers arrived, stayed 10 minutes and left, making no arrests.

Peterson declined to be interviewed by The Bee, saying that he was upset with two articles the newspaper had published.

One of the articles described Peterson at a New Year's Eve vigil for his wife, saying he was laughing and smiling a good deal of the time. He did not say what the other story was.

"With the feelings I have about the newspaper right now, I am not interested in talking," Peterson said by phone. "The articles need to have more with Laci in them and not be focused on me."

Laci Peterson's family reported her missing Christmas Eve. The 27-year-old is more than eight months pregnant with her first child.

Scott Peterson, 30, said he last saw his wife at 9:30 a.m. the day before Christmas when he left for a fishing trip and she prepared to go for a walk with their dog.

Police say they have not named Scott Peterson as a suspect, nor have they ruled him out of the investigation.

Wednesday began with the second part of Peterson's videotaped interview on ABC Television's "Good Morning America," with co-host

Diane Sawyer talking not only with Peterson but with his family.

In the interview, Peterson said:

Both he and Laci have $250,000 life insurance policies, taken out two years ago. He called untrue a report that he took out such a policy on his wife only last summer.

His wife may not have opened the drapes Christmas Eve morning because it was probably 40 degrees outside, and keeping the drapes closed helps keep the house warm. Family members and neighbors have said that Laci Peterson opened the drapes every day.

He routinely cuts his hands in his work on farms. Peterson, a fertilizer salesman, made the comment and showed his hands in response to reports that police had found blood in one of his and Laci's vehicles.

He loaded large umbrellas to take to his warehouse on Christmas Eve. A neighbor reportedly saw Peterson putting something into a vehicle that day.

During the interview, Peterson described his marriage as "glorious" even though he admitted to cheating on his pregnant wife. "We took care of each other very well," he said. "She was amazing. She is amazing."

Asked about the baby boy due within weeks, he responded: "That was, it's so hard."

At his home, Peterson sat down with several news outlets. He went through the interviews alone, without an attorney.

Speaking with Gloria Gomez of Sacramento TV station KOVR, Peterson explained why he said he told his wife about his affair with Amber Frey: "It was the right thing to do. And, as you know, when you're not doing the right thing, it eats you up. You know you feel sick to your stomach and you can't function. And you have a hard time, you know, looking at someone."

Throughout Wednesday, people drove and walked by the Peterson house, apparently to get a closer look.

"It's innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," said Elvira Varse, who lives a few streets away. "But he's guilty until he's proven innocent in this neighborhood."

Among the media throng was a pair of shock jocks from a Los Angeles radio station. When Peterson came home, one of them yelled into a megaphone: "Nobody believes your story."

Lyanne Melendez, a reporter with San Francisco radio station KGO, walked up to the shock jocks' radio van and told the DJs: "That's just bad journalism."

One of them responded: "We're not journalists. We're entertainers."

Bee staff photographer Adrian Mendoza contributed to this report.

I know I think she started getting upset at his affair and probably started telling him she wanted a divorce, when he tought about divorce money and child support, he lost it and got a knife and stabbed her in a fit of rage, i think this happened the night before. That is why the story is so weird and full of holes. It is questionable how long he thought about murdering her: days, weeks, hours, minutes, however, he should be get life, remember this is California. Life is the most punishment he can get. too bad

All Scotty-boy needs to be doing now is to keep talking. Just keep talking, talking, talking....the more he talks, the more he will incriminate himself (or clear himself). If he's innocent, what's the harm in talking? Just keep talking, Scott.

I've been fighting the nausea since seeing the slew of inerviews last nite. Did anyone catch when a reporter asked him how he could go golfing and dinner with friends the last couple of weeks? His face went thru contortions, I swear!

I envisioned a hollow picnic-table type umbrella stand at first too, the kind that is filled with something. But I'm not so sure anymore. Frankly, I wasn't even sure what a "market umbrella" was. But I know now!

Size: 9' H, 1.5" pole diameter. 8' diameter when opened.

Ship weight (lbs.): 17.00

Color: Navy Blue

Made of: Tropical hardwood, water repellant fabric, brass parts and aluminum sleeve

Leaves warehouse in: Next Business Day (click for shipping information)

Hardware Included:

Brand or origin: Arthur Wilbur

The base is sold separately and these things only weigh 17 lbs. apiece. I wonder if Scott appeared to be struggling with what should have only been 34 lbs. worth of umbrellas?

but when she asked him what he bought for Laci for Christmas, his whole face and attitide changed. He puts on a huge smile and tells how he got her a Louis Vitton (sp?) wallet! He was SO proud! Now, maybe it's just me, but I certainly would have expected a gasp....a sob....or SOME gut wrenching response like " Sob...I got Laci ( sob) a Loius Vitton walletttttt (Sob sob wail)

This is what I would have expected when she asked about his CHILD. I would have expected him to attemt to answer but be too overcome with emotion to speak. NO, he says, "it WAS, it is so hard...?"

So why did he HAVE to explain himself about this? I mean, it isn't like saying because he was going to go fishing that day seemed to be in and of itself, an indicator he killed his wife?

Maybe cause certain people were beginning to ask why Laci didn't mention to her mother that SP was going fishing. Also maybe this was his excuse for not wearing the appropriate clothes.

To me, it seems like he doesn't say much about the baby, only Laci, and ONLY when he gets to a point where he feels trapped in answering a question, and then his stock answer is " it's not about me....we need to focus on finding Laci". (He rarely says " my wife AND my child".)

I agree with your thoughts on his reaction to the gift. It was like he was full of glee to say "yeah, see I got her a gift-can't get me on that one!" Yuck.

Tony Soprano is.

I missed the earlier Soprano references. What was that all out?

Maybe he was happy that he still had the receipt.

This has nothing to do with Laci, but do any of you remember the link to the story about the little boy who was left in the toy store in Utah by his step-father? I can't find it now to save my life, and NBC was reporting this morning that HIS mother has been missing for two weeks and the step-father has a violent history.

Scott was asked that question by a woman reporter, he said it was irrevelant and that wasn't any kind of question to ask.
He was in total control of the interviews he held in his home. The interviews in his home were very different than the one with Diane sawyer. He was very careful what he said, did not add more information than required and kept his eyes open with hardly a blink.
He keeps the door to the nursery closed. He cannot bear to look in there. I believe he may have done the deed in the babys room.

**Now, about that Airport ticket line visit. Hummm? Maybe he is going overseas to meet with his employers?**

Are you speaking of the recent clips of SP in the ticket line? If so, he *did* just return from NYC after an interview with Diane Sawyer.

Bada bing!

One of the many articles quoted a friend of the Petersons as saying that the group of friends had little gatherings to watch "The Sopranos" together. Since posters found out that Scott is apparently a Sopranos fan, people have been theorizing that maybe he got the inspiration for some of his ways from that show.

I hereby exonerate Tony Soprano from any blame for Scott's being the way he is. I hope Tony didn't take it wrong...

As for Clinton, his proud place in history is as a synonym for sleaze and deceit.

I would also like to apologize to Mother Teresa for mentioning her name in the same sentence with that of The Impeached Rapist.
