What was your favorite quote from the SOTU tonight?

And why. Why do you believe in that particular quote? How does it affect conservatism? How does it affect our war on Terror? How does it affect 8 years of the previous socialist/communist state we were supposed to embrace?

"We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow. And make no mistake, we are going to begin to act." RR 1981.
Is it just me or could those words have applied just as easily tonite in the SITU speech aas they did on a cold January day in 1981? Reagan was talking about protecting the free world from the Soviet Union. But it could apply to our current situation and what we're trying to do to stop the terrorist menace as well.

Yes, it was a moving moment. Anytime a sincere President acknowledges the military is a poignant moment. Never happened with the previous administration. They loathed him.

I didn't care for the hydrogen part and the government doing research.
If the American people want it, let the automakers do the research and investment.
Government is only there to do what the private sector can't do, won't do or shouldn't do!
Most of the enviro-weenies today are still pining for solar and wind power! Solar power is not a proven technology and would require panels covering the entire country to work. And when it comes to wind power, the liberals love it until someone proposes putting wind machines in front of their pretty view like someone recently did by wanting to put them on Martha's Vineyard.
And when the left wing enviro-nazis stop driving around in limos to go to their narcissus award shows, I'll listen. When Norman Lear sells his 5 gazillion square foot home with a 21 car garage, I'll listen.

For the immediate future, the research companies would appear to be best-positioned to take advantage of the $1.2 billion initiative. Agree. And you've hit on one reason that I was so underwhelmed by the advent of the Segway - with all the puffery associated with its launch, I assumed that it had some sort of radical, non-polluting fuel source. Nope - plain ol' lithium-ion technology.

Not all, but some good topics turn into a flame-fest or a communal shower. Well, if we have flames, we need a shower to put them out. Sorry, just kidding. I hear you. I personally have very little stomach for flame-fests. I rarely, if ever, post replies to salvos made in such skirmishes. The way I look at it is that I'd need to feel either as passionate or as knowledgeable as those participating in a flame-war, and I rarely feel like I meet either of those qualifications. So if I were to participate, I'd either end up feeling out of my league (and thus chastened), or out-shouted (and thus defensive and/or upset).

I'm so blessed to have had Ronald Reagan as my President.

Thanks, I try really hard.

Other than attacking 4 destroyers in the Atlantic, sinking one, and declaring war on us on Dec 9th, not much. But then Bennett is glib rather than bright, so what do you expect?

I loved the part where W said:
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Iraqis that we've got more guts than they have; or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-bit@hes, we're going to rip out their living g@damned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Camel-Jockey c@#!-suckers by the bushel-f#!$ing-basket!"
...reminded me of Mom.

It is, but there is a lot of damage to repair in eight short years.

Pardon my ignorance, and perhaps inappropriate query on this thread, but doesn't it take a LOT of energy to extract hydrogen from those molecules in which it is componant? Where is the source of atomically free elemental hydrogen that can be tapped without generating electricity for seperating H from H2O, for example?

I already posted my favorites somewhere else, but here goes again. These should be the headlines, and the television soundbites: "we will answer every danger and every enemy that threatens the American people.
We will not deny, we will not ignore, we will not pass along our problems to other Congresses, to other presidents, and other generations.
(Take that, Bill Clinton!)
Instead of bureaucrats and trial lawyers and HMOs, we must put doctors and nurses and patients back in charge of American medicine
No one has ever been healed by a frivolous lawsuit.
(Take that, John Edwards!)
there's power, wonder-working power, in the goodness and idealism and faith of the American people
("Power, Power, wonder working power", lyrics from an old gospel hymn. That won't be lost on protestants, black and white, especially Baptists.)
I ask you to protect infants at the very hour of their birth and end the practice of partial-birth abortion.
Iraq, Your enemy is not surrounding your country -- your enemy is ruling your country.
And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation.
as we and our coalition partners are doing in Afghanistan, we will bring to the Iraqi people food and medicines and supplies -- and freedom"
(Shades of Braveheart!)
And the best part...President Bush delivered these phrases with total, deep sincerity. He moved me to tears, he had me cheering.

I don't remember the exact quote but it was similar to the following:
We don't intend to let others determine our fate.
He was jamming it to the irrelevant UN.

But it's so much more important to spend billions of tax dollars in Africa so that a few politicos can feel charitable, rather than to spend that money on something taxpayers want and need.

Is this your lame attempt at being funny? If so go back to that Underground websitethngy. PLEASE! I don't appreciate you mocking two men whom I admire greatly, George W. Bush and Gen. George S. Patton.

I loved it when Dick Cheney leaned into the microphone after that part and said "Big Time". Then Congress went into their Arsenio-esque 'Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!' chant -- classic.
