[history]
It was May 2000 and, during my senior year at Yale, I turned down a job with an Al Gore pollster to teach in an inner-city school.
Five weeks later, I found myself visiting Emery Elementary in Washington, the school where I was going to teach. As the interim principal showed me around, he cautioned: "The one thing you need to do above all else is to have your children under control." Easier said than done, as I was to discover in a spectacular way.

this travesty of education in this and other primary schoolsWaddaya mean "travesty?" What about the beefing up of the union rolls with security guards, and of admin staff and budgets to deal with conflict resolution and lawsuits? All this manna and the instillation of victim mentality in minorities, and class and ethnic strife in the communities. It's leftist heaven, I tell ya!

Where's Joe Clark when you need him? We oughta legalize cloning for the sole purpose of cloning him and making the clones principals of every school in America.

At the root is the left who hate this country and wish to transform it into their own dysfunctional image. Their base of power is the Democrat Party and their enforcers are the trial lawyers. This is only one small area where our liberties have been curtailed through foolish, restrictive laws and fear of trial lawyers. It is a potent combination.
Of course, there is always the old leftists standby, class warfare. Blacks are indoctrinated that all their problems are because they are black and that whitey is keeping them down because of that accident of birth. Things that happen to us all are interpreted by them as happening because they are black. The trial lawyers give them just another avenue through which to "get even".

Exactly. Our governments on all levels - federal, state, and local, can't handle the distribution of free cheese. Why would we think that ANY of them can be successful at educating our children?

Wow, this is one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. I'm going to show it to my home schooled kids then my wife.

I do remember hearing about the DC preschool bill but putting it together with this story makes is really come alive--with disgust. I printed this story out for my father-in-law to read who isn't convinced of our homeschooling efforts.

At one time the author of the bill wanted to make preschool mandatory in the District, even for children as young as 2.

The only way to help disadvantaged preschoolers in Washington, DC, is to take the children at birth. Hillary Clinton and her friend Marion Wright Edelman can stand on either side of the delivery table and grab the baby when it pops out.

"What would happen if the parents of white students in a mostly white school said that a black teacher should not be allowed to teach THEIR children, AND some of the teachers agreed?"
It just doesn't happen that often. The strange paradox of public education is that black educators that teach in mostly white schools are there because they are outstanding or at least above average educators. White teachers that teach in mostly black schools are there because it is their first job or they have medorice teaching skills.
Just a generalized observation and I am sure plenty of counter examples exist. If stuck teaching at a public high school the best bet is teaching classes after lunch hour, if you don't mind the stench of marijuana residue. The trouble makers are usually stuporus or lay their heads down on the desk.

Andre's June 13 medical records were entered into evidence, showing no sign of injury. The judge found me not guilty. This alone should have settled the question in this ludicrous circus.

The pattern repeats itself over and over in almost all "inner city" or economicly depressed areas. Welfare state at work....

One of the ways the Evil Party prepares for the future is by having schools produce ignorant adults with a "you owe me!" attitude. People who haven't had to learn any non-gangster related socials skills, not to mention any skills a non-gangster would be willing to pay for, can subsist on the plethora of "mooch and sponge" programs. And guess for whom they'll vote?
