Minneapolis-AP -- An 18-month-old boy who was left on a cold school bus for more than three hours is recovering at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.

When Antonio Jackson did not arrive home from an early childhood center by 6:30 yesterday evening, his mother called the center and left a message. Police say a staff member eventually got the message and notified co-workers.

After a short search, they found the boy on a parked bus and called nine-one-one.

Firefighters broke through the door around 10 p-m and found Antonio -- who was wearing a snowsuit -- "somewhat responsive."

He is listed in good condition.

Temperatures outside at the time were below zero.

Why would a parent ever leave their child in a situation where this could happen in the first place. Good God Almighty how stupid do you have to be! That lady should be burned at the stake along with those who left the child on the bus and that child should receive some real parents.

There has been a rash of these type incidents.

All employees who drive school buses, children's transportation, should be made to take drugs tests routinely.

These folks must be under the influence of drugs to not notice they are leaving children in their vehicles at the end of the day.

Called and left a message? If this was my child I would be doing more than calling and leaving a message. I cannot believe that an 18 month old baby would have to go through such an ordeal. He shouldn't have been on a bus and in daycare in the first place. This article makes my skin crawl.

My son is two years, six months. I don't let him ride his big-wheel outside the house, let alone cross-town on public transit. The mother and father along with countless more parental dolt's are giving us a real disaster in the years ahead when these kids grow up.

Don't be so quick to condemn the mother. For all we know, she has no car, has to work everyday, and a day care center that picks up and delivers the kids seemed like a great help. As for leaving a message, you'd be astonished how unhelpful some bureaucracies (including schools, hospitals, govt offices) are about connecting you directly to someone with some clout. If the mother didn't have a car, or she had other children at home at that hour, I can understand why she didn't just dash across town to this day care center (especially if it were possible that the kid wasn't there and might show up at home at any minute).

The people who should be blamed are, of course, the bus driver, and the twit who sat on the mother's message for an hour and a half before passing it on to someone less inert.

Yes, I agree with your post to a degree. But three hours? She may not have had a car and certainly I know that many mothers have no other choice but to work to support their family. But in below zero temp. weather I think that SHE herself should have called the fire department or 911. After getting no response from someone for an hour and a half it would be hard to just sit and wait for me personally as a mother. That was the core of my point.

You are right. There is NO REASON why a child that age would be on a bus in the first place. And the parent is an idjit for being a party to it. She will sue, and make her money (probably none of which will go to the child; what the lawyers leave she will spend on her "habits".
