USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Military Valentines Day Project Thread 2 ~ January 22 2003

Posted on 01/22/2003 5:27:01 AM PST by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub
The original idea about organizing a Canteen project to mail packages
to the military belongs to MoJo2001
What started out with a simple FReep mail to several people quickly became a hit.
My 2 cents was to suggest that we get this project underway
in time to get these packages to the military by Valentines Day.
I think there are many different ways to do this.
Our goal is get get packages and/or cards, letters and e-mails to the military
so thay do not feel alone or forgotten on Valentines Day.
If you have not been to the USO Canteen Post Office recently there are new links and info there.
Info on what to include in Care Packages, snail mail postcards, new e-mail links, phone cards, etc.
Several FReepers have obtained snail mail addresses for active duty military.
Some of you have family and friends serving right now.
As you can tell this project can go in many different directions.
Some of you may want to "team" up with others to send one big package.
Others may want to do this by themselves.
Some may just want to e-mail or snail mail Valentines messages.
What is needed now is to post approved snail mail addresses of military bases and/or individuals.
I propose that each Wed between now and Valentines Day the thread be used to update info and ideas.
So to qoute a great patriot of 9/11 "LETS ROLL" and get this project underway!

Oooooh maaaan...I wish I had one of those toasty coats here. They're calling for -0 temps tomorrow night!!! OOOOW!!!
Aren't things a little backwards, Kathy? I thought it was supposed to be colder up your way than down here! LOL!

Sorry I'm so late. Thanks for stopping in today to help honor our troops. Right now, 8pm, it's 24F. We've been having quite the warm spell. The lower 48 seems to have all our weather lately. Please send it back.

Aaaaah, if you see a pic of a jet halfway through a cloud, like this one, it's the moment of breaking the sound barrier. Can you imagine being in one of those babies as it happens? Wow!! It's got to be intense!!!

Did you tell Nick about your little problem? Yep, he knows I'm a wuss. But he also knows I love seeing pics of these awesome machines in action and sends some. I wish I knew who their photographers were so I could give them credit for the pics. He hasn't told me.

Good news, Seven. Keep busting spys and hang them. I don't think they will ever get the message, but at least they won't spy again. Go IDF!!

...................ok, I'm done........... Why'd you stop? LOL! These are all fantastic pics you posted from various ships today, tomkow. Hopefully someone got to see the face of someone they know and love.
(I scrutinized the one from the USS CONSTELLATION but didn't get lucky enough to see one of my new buddies. Maybe next time!)

hahahaha! Can you tell I'm lost tonight? I wonder if I'll ever master going backwards and forwards in order to catch up. :-D
I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to do helo ops tonight. I know you really enjoy going out. But you still had a good time on base and that's what counts!
Someone needs to huff and puff and blow all those weather fronts away! They hit your coast and end up swooping down on us! LOL!!! It's brutally cold out tonight, with the wind roaring like it is. The snowfall has an ugly horizontal slant to it. brrrr!
A "welcome home" *HUG*

LOL! I don't know, but I don't like it. If it's going to be winter, be winter, not this wishy washy wimpy stuff. I would be perfectly happy for low 20s all winter, but we've had several days of above freezing. I hate it!!!!

To our Military -
Thank you for protecting US. Sleep well and safe. May you be protected. May your families' hearts be at ease.

Dubya, this is the card I use from Sam's Club. Only I get the 1250 minute one. And I can call any where in the States for $.0347 a minute. But I had to learn the hard way which ones EXPIRE! MCI expires. I "lost" about 450 minutes.
Hey Brian, do you guys need prepaid calling cards?
If so, do you know what kind works for you?
