You're dead on with that comment. Look at the whole draft proposal. They want the draft so their demonstrations can focus on sending unwilling draftees to war. Then you'll see End the Draft Now posters.In a pre internet, pre Rush world they may have gotten away with this. But now even some "mainscream" press fears ignoring evidence lest they be accused of liberal bias. Thus USA's story, even with its seeming slurs against rural whites and implications of racism, still has t run the stats lest they show up on Rush or FOXNews.

Blacks, especially in the enlisted ranks, tend to be disproportionately drawn to non-combat fields such as unit administration and communications. They are underrepresented in jobs shooting rifles or dropping bombs.

When I was in the Navy, there were a very few racial incidents (for my 6 year enlistment, I saw 3 maybe). When you're on a ship at sea or a soldier in the field, who has time to worry about that crap? Guys don't go out with the attitude, "I'm not going to do what the Lieutenant says because he's black/white/Japanese/Mexican." As a soldier, that's a real great attitude--if you want to die.

The news media likes to try to create a story that the military is full of racial pain, strife, and bigotry. But those stories never stick. It's good to see a truthful story from USA Today.

When I was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier (5600 people), there was a pretty large portion of hispanics. I don't have any demographic numbers, but my observation on a large ship was that there were very many Hispanics.

There's a huge minority population in Support fields and very much less so in the combat and Spec Ops.

I don't know why but this is a fact.

I won't argue that point at all. But I will say that most people get to pick their occupation in the military and unless they are just real f*ckups usually end up getting what they want.

Minorities in the support fields or the combat fields don't bother me. Nor does a disproportionate number of whites, reds, yellers, oranges or blues.

We are all Green on the outside and red on the inside and serve the US Constitution and the flag it represents.
