Well I'm certainly not trying to start a fight. I quit the thread when I saw that was where things were heading.

Op, there is something about this whole Ritter business that doesn't add up, and I think our sensitivities to that are being dulled by pile-on threads like this. For starters, the bloke has enormous first-hand experience of Iraq's WMD situation, far more than the third-hand psyops and ra-ra BS we read in theNew York Post, for instance. So anyone who wants to be informed should be reading and learning from what he's got to say, rather than thinking up juvenile put downs. Secondly, a lot of his arguments have some very cogent points in them which are worth considering. Of course there are some downsides, to war. Of course, those downsides should be considered, especially by those closest to the sharp end. It's all very well for some of our Freeper colleagues to beat the war drums day after day- they'll be sitting in their comfy computer chairs, while people are fighting and dying. And be honest mate, more than a few of the prowars on FR just want some daisy cutter damage pics, to put a spark of adrenalin into their Internet day.

But the biggest anomaly is this business of Ritter's teen sex bust. The guy's a marine captain, an UNSCOM investigator, a known threat to administration policies, aware of being under ongoing investigation by the FBI (and Heaven only knows what other agencies), and yet he falls for the simplest, most tired technique of online sting operation??? And over the last eighteen months or whatever, has been aware of this timebomb of the sex charges ticking away, that his enemies have that in their holster, but that has not muted him to any degree? It doesn't add up. Hey, maybe I've been freeping too long, but there is more to this Ritter business than we are being told. Matter of fact, it shows you how much FR has changed, when so few others seem to have their antennae switched on for such glaring anomalies. Four years ago Freepers would have been all over these discrepancies like stink on a monkey.

Yes, but he was a long-time serial offender, and that behaviour fit the profile. Plus, he had a political and media network who had always protected him before, and he was emboldened by that.

Ritter, on the other hand, was being hunted by everyone. You couldn't count the number of enemies he'd made, and the people who wanted to get a lever on him. Plus, he was already aware of the risk of being compromised in this way- witness his early comments, posted on FR, about the risk of being set up by some young girl working for Sov intelligence.

So we have a bloke who is aware some very sophisticated and hardball people want to compromise him, and who walks into a Burger King to meet some kid he's arranged to masturbate in front of, on the Internet? I just think FR's collective hatred* of Ritter is blinding us to the questions that should be asked about such a bizarre scenario.

*That syndrome's occurred here before, btw.

I understand why you may think that Ritter was set up. My gut feeling is that he assumed that when the records were sealed, they would actually remain sealed. Had he only committed the crime once, it probably would have. Had the District Attorney been kept in the dark by the now-fired Assistant D.A., it might have remained covered up. But once the public discovered that the guy had TWICE tried to meet with underage girls for sexual purposes, that's all it took to blow up. Add to the fire the fact that not many people like him, or what he stands for (Iraq). The vast majority of Americans hate what this guy has been saying, and he can just disappear for all we care.

Well, bloke, maybe this just isn't your day. I was involved with The American Spectator when it broke the story about Clinton's sexual history, and that was in 1993. He didn't get caught doing his thing with Ms. Lewenski until January, 1998.

That pretty well obviates your thesis that he had, and expected to continue to have, protection from the press on the issue of his brutish sexual behavior.
