ALBANY - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter was secretly prosecuted in Albany County in 2001 after he was snared in an Internet sex sting operation, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.Ritter, who lives in the Albany suburb of Delmar, is now a high-profile critic of President Bush's war preparations.
He was arrested by Colonie Police in June 2001 on a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly had a sexual discussion on the Internet with an undercover investigator he thought was an underage girl, law enforcement sources disclosed on condition of anonymity.
The case was sealed, and Colonie officials declined to release the arrest records, explaining the matter was adjourned in local court in contemplation of dismissal.
The Schenectady Daily Gazette reported yesterday that Albany District Attorney Paul Clyne fired veteran Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Preiser last week for failing to inform him of the case against Ritter.
Clyne said that as a "sensitive" case, it should have been brought to his attention.
Ritter, who has made frequent appearances on network television after speaking to the Iraq National Assembly last year, could not be reached for comment.

In 1997, she was elevated to the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
And he has been.
He was on tv just a few days ago ranting and raving. I know he was on *several* shows.
If you are saying he will be now, we'll see, but that would be conjecture.
Strange that you would put it that way. What he's really become is a Saddam tool. If Ritter's sexual proclivities were discovered and leveraged through blackmail and/or pandering to turn his position on Iraq, then that wasn't the work of Bill Clinton. It was the work of Saddam Hussein.
You should treat this as a very instructive data point on how Saddam Hussein operates. Saddam isn't just the richest gangster in the world: he's also the most sophisticated. In principle, he operates like any gangster, but his reach is wider than most. Of course, it helps to have $7 billion in the bank and absolute control over the second largest oil reserves on the planet. Saddam's a real carrot-and-stick guy. His carrots include the traditional: money and sex. His sticks: WMD, terrorism, daily beatings, acid baths, bullets in the head. Between carrot and stick, there's almost nothing he can't get away, almost nobody who can't be bought off, blackmailed or intimidated. Why do you think he's still there?
But--no fear--Ritter's friends in the Media will shut this up...

I think it more likely that the ADA was pressured by Hillary than that she was pressured by an emissary of Saddam.
Of course, they could be one and the same.

Why? There could be a number of reasons.
1. Revenge. Scott didn't shut up, and now must pay.
2. Outlived his usefulness to either side.
3. Side B found the records covered by Side A and leaked them.
4. Perhaps this is a message to Saddam?
Ritter is high profile. Ritter is monitored.
There's No way that local cops would have snared him, and sealed the records without Federal Authorities (FBI/CIA/etc) knowing about it.
Think on that for a minute, and you'll see it is true.
If you were the FBI/CIA wouldn't YOU monitor someone who received a $400,000 cash payment from Saddam?
I would. And If I know to do it, they know to do it.
THEREFORE, the Feds also knew about the sealed records.
No insult intended. Not everyone is old hat here. Some viewers may not understand that the press is not trustworthy no matter who they are reporting on.
