UN's Ritter faced sex rap

ALBANY - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter was secretly prosecuted in Albany County in 2001 after he was snared in an Internet sex sting operation, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.

Ritter, who lives in the Albany suburb of Delmar, is now a high-profile critic of President Bush's war preparations.

He was arrested by Colonie Police in June 2001 on a misdemeanor charge after he allegedly had a sexual discussion on the Internet with an undercover investigator he thought was an underage girl, law enforcement sources disclosed on condition of anonymity.

The case was sealed, and Colonie officials declined to release the arrest records, explaining the matter was adjourned in local court in contemplation of dismissal.

The Schenectady Daily Gazette reported yesterday that Albany District Attorney Paul Clyne fired veteran Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Preiser last week for failing to inform him of the case against Ritter.

Clyne said that as a "sensitive" case, it should have been brought to his attention.

Ritter, who has made frequent appearances on network television after speaking to the Iraq National Assembly last year, could not be reached for comment.

That is the part that seems to be missing. I cannot understand WHY it was sealed.........and who sealed it.

From the article:

Not quite sure where this post was meant to go, but my feeling is that we have quite enough reason to oppose Ritter on the facts about the war. If he has broken the law on any pornography issue, that is not related to his anti-war stance. I would feel appalled about him if he was getting into illicit porn even if he agreed with me on the war. Let's keep the issues straight.

Here's the scoop:

For months there has been discussion about why Scott Ritter did a 180 on his position regarding Iraq and the threat they pose (or as Ritter now would have it, do not pose).

Yes, there is his "movie" and the money he received. But in addition, more than one comment was made about his seemingly unstable mental state when doing interviews.

The reason this revelation is being discussed is it may help explain Ritter's behavior and vulnerability to blackmail.

Or, a headline like:

Something like that.

I cannot WAIT till this breaks wide open.

Don't hold your breath. I've only watched Face the Nation this AM and, of course, C-SPAN Journal. As far as I know the networks haven't touched this. I guarantee the I-Man will have a field day with this tomorrow. Do you know if ABC, CNN or NBC has brought this up? Or, has FOX touched the story?

I wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye..

This was sealed.....which means a lawyer got the DA and a judge to do the deed.....wow!

There is more here ......maybe Scottie actually did the deed with a minor......someone went to a whole lot of trouble to pull this off....for a simple chat online with a undercover cop..

Of course. The only interesting question about Ritter was, how did Saddam turn him? What was the lever? What was the gimmick? Looks like we have the answer to that problem.

Nope.

I'm going to hope they are doing their own investigation and not just ignoring the obvious implications.

Only a judge can seal a case... I'd still like to know what happened though... Most misdemeanors can only be charged from within one year of report of violation... It was sealed in due to the fact that was going to be dismissed.... What does that mean? Either it is or isn't until that first year... after that I believe it would say that statute of limitations would apply...

The Ritter case turns on the Russian connection. Connect these dots:

1. Ritter throws over spouse #1 for #2, Marina, who is a Russian/English interpreter from Georgia. Having been a Russian linguist, I will note only that Marina had to have been carefully vetted for loyalty before getting as far as she did. She is not likely loyal to the U.S.

2. The Russians very much want to recover their large investment in Iraq and have been amorally supportive of that regine.

3. A (former?) poster here, Zviadist, claimed to know Ritter and defended him vociferously. Zviad goes back to Zviad Gamzakhurdia of Georgia, whose forces attacked Sheverdnadze's in the early 1990's and refused to be a party to any agreement constituting the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) out of the former USSR.

PINGING Zviadist to find out what he knows....

I've known you were right since the outset of the article. Just got back and am amused at the ludicrous theory posted by DA whatisname that Bush is behind this.

Motive (hildabeast), opportunity (nysenator) and past history (ms.900fbifiles). Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and smells like a duck (awfully fishy).

I'd like answers about Ed Rendell and his wife Midge. Now that IS off-topic. The Philly papers and talk radio are deifying him. Yet how DID Midge get that Federal Judgeship and Appeals upgrade?

Blood for Oil. "Oil" has many meanings. Clinton and Team Clinton are big in the real "Blood for Oil" business.

The ironic part is that people who choose to wink at his behavior and excuse it or rationalize it are the same ones who claim that Bush's stance against the Iraqi dictator is 'immoral.'
