That is why I think that the US has been slow to provide intelligence until we are ready which is right around the corner IMO.

I suppose we don't have to wait for the ground troops to fully arrive. The initial phase of the war will be a monstrous air assault, and we may be ready for that today. I don't know.

"That is why I think that the US has been slow to provide intelligence until we are ready which is right around the corner IMO."

I can't remember the exact quote, but Colin Powell said (when the inspectors were whining that they couldn't find anything and they wanted the US to provide intelligence telling them exactly where to look) that the US had been waiting to see if the UN inspectors were REALLY on the up and up.

It looks like the administration gave the inspectors a double incentive: "First you've proved to us that you're not taking you job seriously...NOW VINDICATE YOURSELVES AND FIND THE WEAPONS WE GIVE YOU THE LOCATIONS FOR!"

(I HOPE this isn't a double post. Server problems)

Course, I don't want suggest something stupid...but there are probably 100 US special operations folks running around Iraq. How hard would it be for one of them to 'plant' this stuff and drive away? The US needs something of value to show that the military build-up is required...and perhaps Saddam did finally screw up...but I also can list over 100 occassions since the Civil War where the US government laid out bogus situations and the media jumped on them quickly and failed to see the tricks involved. I would hope this is a accurate report and only Saddam's folks are involved.
