United States Government Withdraws All Non-Essential Staff from Middle Eastern Embassies

The US has launched an effort to withdraw all non-essential Governmental personnel from the Middle East.

Officials said the effort is meant to avoid Arab or Islamic reprisals on US personnel over the next few months in the Persian Gulf and Middle East region.

They said US intelligence agencies have warned that Al Qaeda and Iraq could intensify attacks on US nationals to foil a potential Washington-led war coalition against Baghdad.

If United States strikes first, then on Feb 1 or Mar 2 or Apr 1.

If Iraq strikes first, then near Jan 18th (this Friday), or near Feb 15th (Full Moon).

"the Senate will be split 60-40 funding."

Some more excellent news today on top of the administration weighing in on the Michigan case.

I go on vacation from the 24th-30th. I hope we do not go to war during that time, as I'll be out of the country, thus, out of the loop.

Typical Government response. If they're not essential, what the hell are they doing there in the first place!?

The State Department today added Sudan and Jordan to a list of six other Middle East and African countries where Americans connected to U.S. embassies are being ordered home or permitted to return voluntarily as a result of "unstable conditions" related to the Persian Gulf.

-- snip --

The decisions concerning the six other countries had been announced earlier. Those countries are Yemen, Mauritania, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia's Eastern province.

If they are "Non-Essential"....

Why are we wasting money having them there in the FIRST place????

'United States Government Withdraws All Non-Essential Staff from Middle Eastern ALL AMERICAN Embassies' SHOULD be the headline!!!

I cancelled my air tix for the 24th to 10th a few weeks ago, as I do not want to be flying anywhere near the Middle East or Central Asia during the next couple months.

If they are "Non-Essential"....

Adminstrative (e.g. secretaries), USAID, etc.

Intel, military, security, and senior diplomatic staff usually stay put.
