FYI if you can get past the obvious support of the RATs by the author!

The politically charged issue forced the president to balance the desires of his conservative backers, who staunchly oppose affirmative action, against the potential reaction from the broader electorate if he is viewed as being racially insensitive. The majority of Americans are against racism and racial quota systems.

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

He's stroked the dems for the last time after the Senate filibuster started.

Believe you are 100% correct and his speech just now showed it.
He is shoving it right at the RATs/liberals right now and let them come out and start squealing about it is unfair. What is really unfair is someone getting an extra 20 points to gain admission because of race when you can get a perfect SAT score and only get 12 points.
Who is being discriminated against?

Pres Bush just spoke as well calling the University of Michigan racial quotas unconstitutional. His speech is not up at any of the websites yet.

"...the president believes race is obviously a consideration as institutions seek more diversity..."
hate the sound of that
To: hchutch
It's obvious that the Bush-Bashers, both left and right, have misunderestimated him.

I agree 100% with everything the President said, but I don't get why the White House has elevated this issue and had the President make a statement on it. Why give the liberal media ammunition? Why not just file the brief and act like this is not a momentous decision, because it shouldn't be? IMO, Bush cannot win on this one so he might as well take the lumps quietly. The Supremes are gonna support him anyway.

If you believe you should receive special treatment because of the color of your skin, you are a racist!!
To: Dems_R_Losers
Believe Pres Bush made his remarks because he is being trashed on the floor of the Senate today by the likes of kennedy and now daschle. His remarks were very good and gave the reasons why he was weighing in.
I did not know that blacks were receiving 20 points for their color and a perfect SAT score applicant received only 12. I am appalled at that!

I agree with that! Getting extra points because of the color of your skin should be an affront to those that are the recipients of such policy.

The President's announcement caught a number of the usual black race pimps attending other issues. They've asked me to assure all the other black race pimps that they will indignantly denounce the President's position on this key issue in the next day or two.
The racially segrgated Congressional Black Caucus will be allowed to make its usual statements of outrage, as will Jackson, Corrie, Belafonte, and several other field hands. Sharpton, however, will not make any sanctioned comments because the dems simply don't want him to achieve "spokesman" status.
The official statements of "concern," "troublement," and "outrage," will be made by Dashole (as soon as he checks with his wife to make sure that she hasn't been paid to have him speak otherwise) and by Pelosi (who asks that no reference ever be made to her family's position on blacks while they "bossed" Baltimore).
The usual left wing media coverage of all this "outrage" will be overwhelming causing most folks to shift to the normal media. But, again, consider that the missing black race pimps will get their black race pimps standard messages on the record ASAP.

"``I believe affirmative action is an essential tool in expanding educational opportunities to minorities,'' he said." dick is a stupid racist bigot. He is essentially saying that the so-called "minorities" are inferior to whites and therefore, need help getting educational opportunities. This is much, much worse than what Lott said without meaning to. The real ESSENTIAL TOOL for education? STUDY hard? Interesting concept, eh?
Thanks for posting this, PhiKapMom. My respect for President Bush just went up a notch.

Obviously GWBush and company are taking a big gamble in "defying" the revealed wisdom as handed down by little Tommy Daschle and the liberal media. This decision was not taken lightly. And is easier now that Trent Lott has been thrown overboard
Perhaps team GW took into account that in a down economy people are less understanding of affirmative action scams. Particularly ones run by public universities they pay taxes for.

Judging by what the Rats have done recently, it's probably better to shape his argument before they had a chance to shape it for him. I hate politics!
