I agree 100% with everything the President said, but I don't get why the White House has elevated this issue and had the President make a statement on it. Why give the liberal media ammunition? Why not just file the brief and act like this is not a momentous decision, because it shouldn't be? IMO, Bush cannot win on this one so he might as well take the lumps quietly. The Supremes are gonna support him anyway.

Believe Pres Bush made his remarks because he is being trashed on the floor of the Senate today by the likes of kennedy and now daschle. His remarks were very good and gave the reasons why he was weighing in.
I did not know that blacks were receiving 20 points for their color and a perfect SAT score applicant received only 12. I am appalled at that!

Judging by what the Rats have done recently, it's probably better to shape his argument before they had a chance to shape it for him. I hate politics!

Quotas and similar programs are overwhelming opposed by Americans. Bush is doing the right thing morally and politcally.

"IMO, Bush cannot win on this one so he might as well take the lumps quietly" Why can't he "win"? The vast majority of American citizens agree with him. Why wouldn't Americans respect Bush's courage and leadership?

I take it as a GOOD sign that indicates the POLLING on this favors being out-in-front on it ... Bush had the choice to (a) do nothing, (b) do something quietly, and (c) do something publicly. I frankly expected him to do (b), but he is surprising by being out frontn on issues ... this means that even if the Dems froth at the mouth, Bush and Conservatives can win the debate by pointing to MLKs line that we should be judged by the content of our character and not the color of our skin.
Racial quotas and setasides violate that ideal.
Do your part: write letters to the editor promoting color-blind race policies and opposing divisive racial quotas. It is intellectually consistence and the right thing to do. Soon to be the law passed down by USSC, I hope.
