"I have a dream that one day my four little children will live in a country where they will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
-- Martin Luther King, 1963

Seems like W is trying to make King's dream a reality.

This is exactly what I respond to anyone who thinks Doctor King would want America to trade one kind of racism for another.

I thought that comment was like that of a typical smug liberal - Dubya can't make a decision by himself.

Ah, so in your opinion, the anti-AA forces in the GOP should have kept their mouths shut in recent weeks over this particular issue...trusting implicitly that the President would make the right choice.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but without the political counterweight to the race pimps represented by the anti-AA forces in the GOP, Jesse Jackson would win every battle. That is political reality.

Besides, those who oppose the institutionalized racism of Affirmative Action have a duty to speak out against it at every opportunity anyhow, regardless of any battle that is currently underway.

I came on this thread and complimented the President for his principled stand; for going forward in concert with the best thinkers in the Republican Party; and I get attacked. Amazing.

Perhaps it is you who is acting like a liberal, whoever you are.

"When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it. "Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything. "I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.'

"If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.

~~ Ronald Reagan, in his autobiography, An American Life

No, her comment meant that for once, you guys should WAIT to see what the president actually DOES before you all hang him out to dry and demand that HE DO what you think he ought to.

You're wrong every single time.

The anti-Bush crowd on FR are so predictable.

Bush is always wrong, even when he takes the most conservative and fair course.

But Bush did not fix my one-issue concern overnight
But Bush fixed it two weeks later than I wanted it
But Bush did not speak long enough on my pet cause
But [I always bitch no matter what...]

From Day One, I have known where George Bush stands on a variety of issues. What I have seen on this particular issue, over the last few days, is the following strategy:

Knowing full well how Bush was going to come down on this issue, various and sundry pundits, posters, and politicians float the prospect that the President will either support the University of Michigan or stay out of the fray because of fear of angering the minorities. Let me repeat this: ALL THESE PEOPLE KNOW THIS IS NOT TRUE. Then, once they have written their columns, posted their rants, and generally made every effort to get conservatives upset, the President comes out and DOES WHAT HE HAD PLANNED TO DO ALL ALONG. Then the posters, pundits, and assorted jerks who grace this forum and the media say that "Bush caved to the right wing" or "Bush is shoring up his base."

Richard Ferrier and the Keyes aides are prime examples of this technique. TLBSHOW is emulating them in a clumsy way. Michelle Malkin is trying, no doubt, to claim credit as well.

What I want to know is how come you and I are smarter than Pat Buchanan, Michelle Malkin, and various losers who are posting on Free Republic? Maybe WE should write a column! At least WE understand what the President is doing!!

Now I am going to go fix supper and have a glass of wine. Ha!

On different subjects, you two take the cake for being the most profound and illuminating today.

MB - hence, Iraq.
JS - hence, lib/dems

I did none of those things. Your accusation is unjust.

Seems like W is trying to make King's dream a reality.

President Bush truly loves this country and respects her citizens. ALL of her citizens.

From his speeches over the years it is clear that he does, indeed, share Dr. King's dream.

I have confidence that he will win this PR battle, too, and the dems' mewling and denunciations will be to their further detriment. And that's a good thing!

Thankyou for clarifying all that, aristeides. I did recall that Powell was pivotal. What a mess that decision made! But it looks like the UM case will give the SC a clear shot at finally bringing constitutional clarity to this issue. No matter what they decide, I know very well that various cities, states and universities will violate the mandate in their determination to impose their concept of "social justice" on the rest of us. University of California's defiance of 209 is a case in point. So is Willie Brown's discriminatory contract/hiring policy in SF. So the fight will be probably be endless and a SC decision adverse to UM will only keep the honest people honest.

Did you see how pissed off his face was when they were finished and they said they were out of time. He didn't get to say what he wanted - it was wonderful. First time that Jessie was abused by everyone - even the audience got a charge out of it!

Aw, I just failed to qualify for your easy money. I was looking for work teaching law in 1996, and the period starts in 1997.

Finally, King's dream will be a reality.

And WHEN it happens, Jessi and his buddies in the race-bating industry will go the way of Enron.

I can't wait.
