Lesson the First.
It does little good to protect borders. If you wish to do any commerce with the rest of the world, terrorists will find a legal way to enter our country.
This is not a "War on Terrorism" Using that term is like saying we fought WWII in the Pacific as a "War on Naval Power" or in Europe, a "War on Mechanized Infantry."
Terrorism is simply a technique, a somewhat extreme form of guerilla warfare, nothing more than that.
We are engaged in a war on Islamic Terrorists.
Like every guerilla war, you can not defeat the guerilla on your soil. You cannot defend everything, so instead of hijacking airliners, next time he poisons your water supply, or blows up a school, etc.
The prescription for victory for the US is the knowledge that no guerilla war was ever successfully waged without the guerillas having the support of a third country. Even in the American revolution, we won at Yorktown because the British fleet could not evacuate Cornwallis' troops.... because the French fleet was offshore.
You defeat the G by attacking his supporters. When the cost is too high, they withdraw support, and the G disappears.

I posted this on another thread:
It's also ridiculous to watch the hissy-fits being thrown about what GWB MIGHT do. Some people are not content unless they take THEIR weaknesses, THEIR insecurites and THEIR lack of integrity and project it onto others, I guess.
I am absolutely convinced that much like the thief, who assumes everyone is dishonest, some people do the same with politics.

Perhaps some people should learn not to rely on press accounts of what this president will do

And I think it was shameful that Teddy killed Mary Jo when he was drunk!
To: EternalVigilance
Of course it would be naive to believe he is operating in a political vacuum, and of course he listened to advice from both sides, before finalizing his decision to speak or not to speak on the subject.
But in the end HE made the decision, and HE spoke out strongly, knowing that he would encounter a firestorm of cries of 'racism' from the left.......and he did it with conviction and truth.
It seemed as though you thought he just happened to pick the right advice this time. I apologize if I misread your intent.

Excellent point, Ditto.
Finally, King's dream will be a reality. Bush is being color-blind.

I was not able to hear the speech live. Does anyone know where the text of the speech is posted??? I would like to read it. Thanks....
To: Karsus
Oh, so you DID bring up the issue of his timing first. Well, as I said before, if you feel his having taken a position on this prior to and after being elected just wasn't good enough, be sure to offer him your services as an expert on such matters.

I can do that (but not with all the fancy HTML!) LOL!
FOR THE LOVE OF GAWD, STOP CUTTING AND PASTING THAT CRAP. WE"RE SICK OF IT.
I would REALLY appreciate it if EVERYONE OF YOU who is sick of Todd's spamming would PING him on this thread and tell him.
As an added note, you've obviously mistaken me and a lot of others with some people who CARE what Richard Ferrier thinks.
Ted Olsen has been working on this brief for a good while. Tomorrow is the day that the Supremes had to be notified that the administration would like to present a position. Anyone who has any understanding of the methods and mind of W would know that he would be making this announcement today.
TLB would like to believe that GWB decided to go live on TV because of Freeper mail. I don't think so!

I'm proud of President Bush.
No racism allowed in the Republican Party, it does not matter whether you call it "affirmative action" or quotas or segregration or "separate but equal."
Great way to start the year!

The Bakke decison said race preferences could be used only in very narrowly tailored circumstances to redress past discriminatory policiesIt's allowing the U of M to get away with pure racism, isn't it?
No. What has happened is that Universities have essentially ignored the Bakke decision, except for Powell's minority opinion, using various strategies to avoid being sued. They've tried to conceal their admissions policies; they've tried to pretend blatantaly discriminatory hiring is in fact open and non-discriminatory; but mostly they've counted on the fact that very few of the direct victims of these policies will know what has happened to them, will have the standing to sue, and will be willing to go through the long process of appeals and counter appeals. In the Hopwood case, where the plantiff won at the appellate level, U Texas declined to appeal to the Supreme Court, in order that the case apply only to the 5th circuit and not nationally. It's been a combination of stonewall and stall for the last 20 years.
My university has blatantly made hiring decisions purely based on race. ethnicity or sex over the last 5 years. One third of our faculty have been hired primarily for these reasons, rather than their qualifications. So what did we in the Nebraska Association of Scholars do? We worked with a state legislator to bring their politcies to light; we put details on a University web page; we tried to let people know that if they were qualified for any of these positions, they can probably sue U Nebraska for big money; and we tried to interest CIR, CEO and other organizations in the case. But we ourselves don't have standing - we're already employed here. (If anyone reading this has a Ph.D. and feels like some easy money, check this out.
Liberal dominated organizations flout the law whenever they feel like it, and seldom get called on it. That's another reason this case is so important.

I saw him on Crossfire last night and Joe DiGenova practically snapped Jessie Jackson's head off - It was the most wonderful thing to see!!! Jessie was rambling and rambling and no one was listening!

Affirmative Action & Border Protection = Apples & Oranges.
Now addressing the issue of Border Protection and your question as to what/when THE PRESIDENT is going to do about it.....
THIS PRESIDENT has been in office for only 2 years and is working to undo many facets of damage to our country that had/had been done almost a decade...how right minded people think he can fight terrorism/WMD threats and the NK mess AND fix EVERYTHING from 8 years of scandal and corruption in a scant 2 years is quite remarkable...
I'll admit that THE PRESIDENT is good...a great leader...but he isn't GOD.
Give him at least to the end of his term before you start lambasting him about your one issue.

Sen. Tom Dashcle (D-Homestake Mining) made it official, he is disapointed. Before he said that, I was only 99% sure that Bush did the right thing today. Thanks to Tommy, I'm now at 110%. My rule is that if it bothers the dems, I'm all for it, whatever it is.

We should copy that model. You want us to sound like lying lunatics? I'll pass.
